Hi,

I'm looking to build a gaming rig with a budget of around 1.2k, excluding any peripherals or computer monitors. The games that I would mainly play are DotA 2 and open-world games. As this is my first time making one, it would be more convenient if I could get the parts and have it assembled as well in one shop(wouldn't mind getting it from individual shops if its really cheaper by alot.)

Any kind advices?

Thanks! :)

Edit: Would be spending about 200 for a monitor, any suggestions?

Hey, thanks for the response!

Currently thats about 1k exclusive of monitor. What if just for the cpu itself I'm willing to spend about 200-300 more? Any upgrades to the GPU to lets say gtx 960/970?

http://list.qoo10.sg/item/QNIX-QNIX-QHD-2410R-DP-REMOTE-LED-24INCH/437412830 there's this on qoo10 for $304, i was confused with the q-price so i didn't recommend it before. but what's so bad about taobao monitors anyways?

Easy, not everything on taobao is tried and tested. And given the large number of product and repeated product, not everything can be tested. People were able to get some decent monitors from QOO10 despite the lack of support.

Sometimes you don't know if you're buying the monitor/part of the monitor from taobao

1. Dubious build quality
2. Dubious screen panel origin
3. Still no warranty
4. Shipping expensive and high risk of damage caused during shipment
5. May not run on local 230V AC input
6. Everything else said by monikernemo

Please refrain from suggesting something hardly heard of, or tested. Buyers come here in hopes of getting sound advice to ensure they are getting safe and proven products. Should exercise some responsibility as their hard earned cash is at stake.

Hi moneyface (sorry to hijack OP thread),

the windows is trustworthy source? There are quite a number of links selling the Windows, will any link do? I see 32/64 bit download, or is it on the right under download links?

Thanks herman and moneyface for the valuable suggestions, I think I would probably settle on what moneyface proposed.

Currently, I have slightly changed a few parts from the original,

CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-6500 + Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H @ $450 (Fuwell)
RAM: G.Skill NT DDR4-2400 CL15 8GB [Black PCB] @ $78 (t258jgn)
GPU: Sapphire R9 380x ~$388.00
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB @ $123+3 (Lazada Singapore)
HDD: Seagate 1TB 64MB ~$69.00 / Western Digital Blue 1TB @ $77
Superflower Leadex Silver 650W ~$129
CASE: Cooler Master N200 Advanced @ $66
OS: Microsoft Windows 8 Professional 64-bit Product Key [OEM] @ $30 (Reddit)
Wifi: Considering local distributors instead.

Total about 1.2kish. Willing to slightly increase my budget for the cpu itself to a maximum of 100-200 if it would really be lasting/decent improvement in performance.

Any valuable inputs? Considering to actually upgrade the GPU to a gtx 970 but afraid it would overstretch my budget.

Thanks!

Price for 380X is pretty much a taboo with GTX 970 in the lower $400s right now...

After shopback rebate that is.... :o

And GTX 970 is clearly a tier better than R9-290...

R9-380X must go below $350 to justify its value....
