Hello bros, I need advice on purchasing a high-end laptop desktop replacement. I've been doing some research online for reviews of my shortlisted vendors but i can't find much as the information are mostly outdated. All advices are welcomed and will be take into consideration. Thanks!

17.3" Sager w i7-6700k
Gtx 980m,
8gb ram,
Samsung SM951 AHCI PCIe M.2,
1Tb 7200rpm,
Intel 8260 wireless card.

Reason for configuration: Will be using it for gaming (current: triple monitor setup.. future: 4k screen..)
work (3d rendering, 4k video editing, some intensive graphics design..)

Hi Intrinion!

I'd like to find a mid-range work & occasion gaming type within budget $1000-$1200 max.

Work is probably heavy usage of Excel and browsing, and thinking to play COD/BF series and FIFA at most, not necessarily using highest graphic, as long as playable :s13:

I've found a few, but all Asus that a friend recommended. What do you think about these models.

* K401U - found at Funan, priced @ $1098
* X556U - found at Newstead Funan too @ $999
* K401LB - Can't find this one yet, but I assume it's K401U variance?

Do you think those are okay? Or you can recommend something else better and worth the price?
Thinking to buy at IT show later in March thou.. hahaha.

Thanks in advance! :):):)

There's still time till march to save up :D
possibly an aftershock maybe? ;)

A bud of mine has the K401 - pretty beautiful, light weight with relatively alright specs - i7 dual core with GT940M. Is sufficient for the occasional light gaming in medium settings - and a daily driver for day to day lugging arounds

Aftershock probably too hardcore for me hahaha.

Oh, the K401 seems good enough then? How about the X556?
Do you think it's worth to wait for the IT show in March or should I just get it now? Hahaha can't decide yet. Thinking that I could get some free extra perks if I wait till then.
Suggestion?

Price wise, it's about a +$300 for overkill specs :D
Any links for specs of the X556?

Well, IT shows are good if you can wait.

The general rule of thumb of buying from the IT show is that you will get freebies... but if you don't want those. you can tell the booth staffs to give you a "best price" without all those "freebies" - which would knock down the price to somewhat lower than actual retail price.

Cant find anything online, man.. I saw it at Newstead Funan and was interesting, can only remember it was 1tb hdd, 4gb ram and geforce 840m (or is it 820m), but doubled up with another built in graphic card.

Oh didnt know that you can opt out the freebies and get a lower price instead! Cool trick and i shall wait for March, i guess? Hahaha
I think K401 should suffice then, eh? I hope

Thanks for the advices man :)

Dont mention it! :)

Yep. Most laptops or rather all laptops with an Intel and Nvidia combo do come with two* Gpus - one Intel HD graphics and the other a Dedicated Memory Nvidia- both of which toggles automatically for optimal performance and battery life.

Hmm. Newer mobile gpus are now in its 9xx range.
I believe the K401 has the 940M :) ..

how to know which laptop have this ?

since every modern laptop has a iGPU as part of the CPU, optimus exists on all models, with 2 common exceptions:
- notebooks running gpus in SLI
- notebooks using a Gsync display

those 2 cases dont work with optimus so it's not a feature on such machines
