The popular hotels are probably fully booked by now though.
Book now if you haven't done so yet.

Given it is very late for hotel bookings, be prepared to pay up to hundreds of bucks (even thousands) for one-night stay in areas near the blossoms. good luck.

Feel you would be rushing around everywhere without really getting to see much within Tokyo.

Lesser day trips out of Tokyo would be a better idea, unless you are the type with a lot of energy in you.

If this is something you really want to do though, don't let anything stop you.

I'll be in Tokyo too during end march for about 6 nights. First and last day is gone due to flying so only 5 day to enjoy my first trip to Tokyo.

Managed to get Sheraton Miyako Tokyo for about $190/night share with my friend for a Twin room so about $95/night/person.

The hotel seems sold out now though.

Why spend so much for a place to sleep / luggage ?
Why check in to a hotel at all? Just lock luggage in coin locker (ÂĄ800) and then sleep overnight in internet cafe (ÂĄ1,500), or go to a park and sleep on a bench in sleeping bag overnight much cheaper, no?

Well there's breakfast and lounge access as well. Evening would have some food/drink options in the lounge too. I'm a member so would earn some hotel points as well.

Toyoko Inn / Super Hotel are convenient & decent.
Capsule hotels are quite good.
Need not stay in Internet cafe / street performing / locker .

The point is, if you just need a place to sleep and to store your luggage, internet cafe / locker is good enough.

But because you want a bit more comfort / privacy, and because you can afford it, you choose to stay in more expensive accommodation like a hostel or capsule hotel or business hotel.

Does that then answer your original question of "Why spend so much for a place to sleep / luggage?" It's the exact same concept.

By the way, hostel is not a recommended place for light sleepers, unless you are willing to brave noise with earplugs. Hostel is a good option for budget travel though.

I find it really funny to read about why people think about spending so much on accommodation, but I would pay reasonably for a good place to rest.

different ppl have different priorities and preferences when travelling. some are ok with a bare minimal accommodation coz to them it is just a place to sleep for the night. others are willing to pay more coz it is a place for them to recharge and be fully energised for another day of travelling, and the accommodation is part of the their travel experience.
there is really no right or wrong lah.

I agree. Though I feel that even minimal has to be decent. You don't want to sleep on uncomfortable beds, have bedbugs or pests infestations in your accomodation. Maybe it might not be something that people realise until they have experienced it for themselves...

Perhaps bedbugs & pests are something that are not encountered at all even for the cheap accomodations in Japan? Which may be why lots of people dont see a need for hotels.
