Does anybody knows APC UPS BX1100Li works with DS 918+? Cause under the compatibility list, if it's not listed. But I can still use and the NAS will perform a graceful shutdown by itself if there are sudden power lost rite?

Mxplayer will lag? I am using it together with ds1515+, no transcoding but no issue...even with FHD videos..

eh, I got question for all NAS owners leh..

Is it really worth it to get my own NAS? when you can pay for online cloud storage with possibly more features than ur NAS. Like Sync, 8USD per month for 2TB.

Say if I get the entry-level DS216 for ~$363, and a 2TB drive at ~$121.. I can pay for more than 3.5 years worth of Sync subscription. This is not even considering the electricity cost for the entire 3.5 years on 24/7.

So unless you need more than 2TB storage (if you have >2TB, I advice you stream it instead ;D), I feel that its not really worth to get a NAS. Anyone can advice?

No. Everyone knows about online storage these days before they went ahead to purchase a nas.

If you only have little amount of files, go for cloud.

One man's meat is another man's poison. Nothing to advice actually most info you could obtain by googling

Hello, new to this thread. I'm having some issues now with my DS 1515+. Unluckily for me, one of my 3 drives in my RAID 5 setup died AND my diskstation decided to die at the same time. I can't find much documentation online about migrating and repairing simultaneously. Usually it's one or the other. Any hope?

do not follow what you are trying to do.

1. what drives
2. diskstation died meaning?
3. hdd crash or bad sector what is the error?

no head no tail difficult to advise. will be good for you to seek advice from Synology if you have secrets n not able to disclose more in here.

1) 3x WD Red 6TB HDDs, with a RAID 5 setup
2) Over the past month, it randomly shuts itself off and turns back on after some time. At first I thought it's a loose power cable. But it became increasingly frequent and the current state is that it is in its OFF state more than its ON state. Right now i just unplugged it fully. 2 weeks ago, when it was still randomly restarting, there is also a beep when powering on. When checking the storage status, it shows that the RAID array is degraded, and one of the 3 LEDs for my HDDs is off.
3) I have no idea how I can check, as I am unable to access the web interface or even SSH in, as the Diskstation itself does not turn on.

I guess my main question is not what to do next. I have already contacted Synology and might do an RMA, or I might get a new one.

The main question is that there are tutorials for migration between 2 diskstations (which assumes healthy RAID arrays):
https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowl...and_later#t2.1

As well as tutorials on how to fix a RAID 5 degradation (which requires a working, and fully set up Diskstation):
https://www.synology.com/en-global/k...skgroup_repair

But I want to know if I get a new Diskstation, would the initial setup work given my degraded RAID 5 arrays, or will I be able to repair the array when the new Diskstation before the setup?

Thanks

How long would it take you to upload a 10gb file to cloud? If internet down, you can't access your files... I use my NAS to stream video to my android box to watch movie over local LAN...
