I am quite confused on the transcoding feature in DS418

4K Multimedia Server
Access and stream your favorite 4K content anywhere, anytime. DS418 supports 10-bit 4K H.265 online transcoding via Video Station and DS video, allowing 4K videos to be converted and played on your computers, mobile devices, or other media players that don’t support Ultra HD formats.

Does this mean i need video station and ds video to transcode 4k video?
And what is the difference between media server and video station?

Media server uses dlna for smart TV and dlna supported devices(speakers). Some video formats might not be supported.

Video station decodes and then streams the video, less if not no issue with video formats, codecs.

cancel last query... DS418 can't transcode over DLNA to client.

nonetheless transcoding is actually losing quality right?

to be precise, my LG webos2.0 cant receive 4k over dlna
and ds418 dun transcode over dlna

u can dlna in ur ds212j in native format, but u can't transcode, dlna is not transcoding

yes, WebOS 2.0 is crap.

i am on the same OS TV too. Will never touch LG again after it breaks.

Samsung on the other hand works extremely well with DSVideo.

i can run some 4K content actually.. not all.

finally got my first nas, 216j with ironwolf 4TB. DS video works perfectly on apple tv to my jurasic 40 ledtv. haha

anyway a few questions,

1. I cant access my nas if not connected to my home network
2. is there any way to transfer existing movie collection aside from USB drive attached to NAs then copy?

I have around 1.5Tb of movies to move

1. Open router port and allow traffic in accordingly or simply use Synology apps dsfile and or etc

2. Connect to your PC and transfer via Lan/wireless

Yes, Samsung can install even on older Samsung smart TVs

Native. I don't like transcode waste time. My nas cannot do it on the fly anyway (ds1515+ is crap).

Hence i got Asustor to do the job now. No need transcode. Just HDMI. Easiest and supports anything u throw to it for LG.

If on Samsung, dsvideo is great.
