I'm using the 5400rpm Iron Wolves. So far so good. Silent and not so hot.

I just got my DS218+ this month. With 2 x 2TB ironwolf. No perceivable sound, quite happy with it

i think is fake alarm from the system. I just click repair mode.

I think repair mode is format & re-copy the file again

Of course, will merry go round with WD Red HDD and Synology NAS. I am sure you are aware no go for using WD Red here.


Why avoid WD Red?
So ironwolf better for NAS?

I use 10Tb Ironwolf pro so far so good, runs a tad hotter than the Seagate NAS drives

Avoid if you can.

I think there is but not 100%, local re-sellers list first 2 years have in their website, I am running SHR2 anyway don't have hope on data recovery once the harddisk has failed.

The local Iron Wolves have the data warranty? Like the free data recovery?

Are Toshiba N300 drives the safest bet for use with Synology these days? I miss the days when the HGST NAS drives were still available.

i tried connecting my NAS 218j to mac mini using USB to USB-C connector. But mac is not detecting the NAS. only via ethernet can connect right?

The USB is for the NAS to read external storage...
NAS is like a computer, not external hard disk.

thanks. will try to install as shared drive. long time never turn mine ON, forgot how to connect. 😅😂🤣

The USB is for the NAS to read external storage...
NAS is like a computer, not external hard disk.
