Yea totally agree with this one. What's your idle temperature for your disks? Mine is 39-40 for Toshibas and 36 for WD Reds
Toshiba X300 40-42deg
HGST Deskstar 46-47deg

Already retired my older WD REDs

The hottest HGST at 47deg has been running 31533hrs, around 3.6yrs nearly nonstop.

If I am not wrong, one of my WD RED 2TB which I retired should have no less than 65K power on hours.

You can check again a few years later and see if my hot running HGST drives burn out or not. They don’t hibernate because my surveillance camera is always causing the volume to perform writing.

What’s stopping you guys from going with a custom solution like Unraid?

Such a question would be like, wouldn't it be even better if you could use your favourite Linux distro, setup your most suitable LVM/RAID/ZFS configuration, maybe even throw in a hardware RAID card and/or remote management card, have a couple of 10Gbps network ports, add in your favourite virtualisation and/or container technologies, install from a wide range of software found in the distro repo and/or external repo, harden it according to the CIS benchmark level ?

In fact, why not a GlusterFS, distributed storage nodes like Ceph ? Why should we not go this far ?

u are in the wrong thread - this thread is meant more for people who is willing to have ready-to-use product over custom.

1. check adapter --> will give it a try and see if it is the problem.
https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/124050 --> doesnt seem to be same problem as mine. my DS414 currently cant power on. the writer still able to power on his own device but after a while it will turn off.
