Hello everyone,

seeking advice.

I am currently using a 1819+ for my company, with 6 slots filled

- 4 x 4tb toshiba
- 2 x 10tb toshiba

I am thinking of moving to a 12 bay synology nas and repopulating it with 10tb or 12tb for half (6 bays) and keeping the remaining 6 bays for spare. Is the 12 bay synology worth it?

Also, as this is a corporate nas, is there a way I can get a second nas (12 bay, same model) and mirror the nas at another location (e.g. my home?)

This is in the event that something happens at either location and data is lost.

Thanks!

Size and model of your secondary NAS doesn’t need to be the same as the primary NAS. It also depends how much redundancy you are looking at and how you are mirroring and frequency of backups. Synology sync based on shared folder, and there are other ways to create redundant copies too, doesn’t need to be another NAS. It could be an external USB harddisk, sync across network to other types of storage systems like cloud, SMB/CIFS, etc.

Unable to resume or fast forward 4K video

Hi,

I am having problems playing 2160p contents on my 55"QLED Q7F 4K Smart TV (2018) from my DS 415play using Samsung's DS Video app. Video will freeze every time when I resume from where i left off or fast forward & backward.

After discussion with Synology Support, it seems that it might be the limitation of the DS 415play since it doesn't support transcoding.

Migrated to DS 918+ yesterday and I am still having the same problem
- My network is end to end 1Gbps
- I have no problem at all on 1080p and below resolution

What could be the possible problem here, could it be due to certain configuration of DS Video or the TV configuration?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I found that Samsung did not work too well with the DS Video software in the past. Have you checked for firmware updates? This may help.

I am using Apple TV to stream DS Video with no issues. If you happen to have a 3rd party device like a amazon fire stick or can get your hands on an Apple TV you could troubleshoot it.

Also with regards to your network, are your devices both connected to the same switch and you 100% sure that devices are getting full 1Gbps speeds? If there is a bottleneck on your network this could also result in what your observing.

using 918+ and Samsung Q8C + DSVideo myself. No issue - however my TV is on LAN instead of WIFI.

Yes I have transcoding enabled. My NAS is an older model DS916+

If you have a short clip sample to share I can test it and let you know how it works on mine.

With the 918+ did you load up NVMe’s on it?
