guys, i have index video and photo for DS video and DS photo app. On TV, using DLNA, can also view video and photo. Is there anyway to control dlna devices (tv) from viewing video and not photo?
Create a new user that does not have rights to view photos and use that to login from your TV. Are you using moments?

Nope, not using moments.
But DLNA does not require login from tv when I access Nas from LG smartshare

My guess is to separate photos and videos into 2 different folder?

To restrict access you may want to consider disabling DLNA then and create a dedicated login and install the app to access your content that has restricted access to what you want to allow.

thanks for the suggestion guys.

creating a dedicated log in does not helps as my LG tv smartshare does not has a log in features, and i cant disable DLNA as i thought it is by default? but anyway, crucial is i cant have a log in for LG tv.

movie and pic folder are already separated in 2 different share.

so what i did was
1. not indexing the pic folder, so that tv dlna does not pick it up, so tv cant view my photo.
2. ds photo still can access the pic folder, not sure why, but it works for now...

anyone knows how DS photo search for folder of pics?

Hi guys, i just replaced my old router with a new one, then my synology NAS can't be found on the network. The LAN light is blinking on the NAS and i tried to switch between the router ports, all not working to read the NAS.

Synology Assistant seems to be able to find the NAS but the status put "connection failed."

On my PC i seems to be able to see a device without name and the device details eg. manufacturer/model/model number/device webpage all put unavailable.

Its only listed as Generic Network Connected Device.

Anyone can help? Thanks

Did you set a static IP on your NAS? Tried pinging the NAS?

Not sure about indexing, but my DS416j is doing a parity consistency check for 3TB hard disk for almost a week now. Funny thing is it showing as initialized yesterday. I restart the NAS and then changing the RAID type to SHR2. Now it is doing 2nd round of checking again.

For RAID1, you will get 4TB of unformatted capacity. The other 4TB of unformatted on the 8TB hard disk will be just unused, unless u choose to RAID 1x4TB(on 4TB HDD) partition and 1x4TB(on 8TB HDD). Then just 1x4TB normal partition (non-raid) from the 8TB HDD

The above so called flexibility is what Synology SHR offers. The fundamentals is what I have described.

If it is your 4TB HDD that is replaced, yes u will get no data lost. If it is your 8TB HDD replaced, then the non-raid 4TB partition's data will be lost.

Does it mean i can choose another 4TB from the 8TB HDD to house "unprotected" data eg. unimportant ones? Will there be any performance enhancement w 2 HDD RAID1? or just basically backup.
