i just have gtx 970..dont think can drive ultra in fallout 4. currently addicted to it.

not sure able to fully utilize the monitor or not

impulse buying..
I think a 970 should be able to get about 40 fps in ultra? Still not too bad. You can always get another 970?

haha. mayb next year to upgrade gpu..

how does gsync work anyway? lets say i play at ultra setting in 1440p with 30 to 40fps...

would it stutter or because of gsync it still looks smooth?
G-sync fixes screen tearing and also ensures there is no stuttering

So the issue with screen tearing is because the display has a fixed refresh rate.

Monitor:
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

But the rate that the GPU renders the frames are not fixed.

GPU:
| || || | || ||||| | | | |||| | | ||| ||| ||| ||||| | | || || || ||

So because of this mismatch screen tearing happens.

Monitor:
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
GPU:
| || || | || ||||| | | | |||| | | ||| ||| ||| ||||| | | || || || ||

G-Sync fixes this by synchronizing the GPU and Monitor.

Monitor:
| || || | || ||||| | | | |||| | | ||| ||| ||| ||||| | | || || || ||
GPU:
| || || | || ||||| | | | |||| | | ||| ||| ||| ||||| | | || || || ||

So you get no screen tearing and smooth gameplay. Once you tried it, you wouldn't want to game on anything else.

I'd say go for it. You are more likely to change GPU than monitor. With G-Sync, your gaming experience will probably improve too.

Unless you have no need for it now and want to wait for prices to fall.

Was originally contemplating between this and the X34.

I watched some video reviews of the X34 and one reviewer mentioned that the ultra-wide 21:9 ratio isn't ideal for first person shooters (which I play quite a lot) as it had a "swimmy" feel to it (not mouse lag or perf issues). I personally tried CS: GO on the X34 at Xtreme Solutions and at Funan and thought the same thing. So 3 major cons against it:

1) Perf decrease due to extra game world being rendered compared to 16:9 monitors.
2) Weird "swimmy" feel for shooters.
3) 300 bucks more expensive than the XB271HU.

So the choice became clear to me.

Subjective I guess. The extra $300 is tagged with two other cons for him, hence it became a con itself.

Also the X34 is 100Hz only. XB271HU is up to 165Hz.
