simi ish IPC?
Means every Hz how many work it can do.
If Intel and AMD running at same frequency, AMD will be faster even with zen 2.

CPUs will always be a balance between thread switching speeds and IPC. There is a number of threads per core you can efficiently address simultaneously before the performance goes downhill a LOT. There was a thread on OCN a few years back and IIRC the thread switching started incurring a lot of performance loss past around 20 threads per core. So in theory you don't actually need more than around 4 cores in most situations though some games can make efficient use of 6+ these days.

Obviously you have to have a total IPC big enough to keep up with all the tasks which is why dual cores are basically dead in the water now.

Another thing to consider is that certain loads do not fully utilise all of the resources presented by a CPU core. Modern CPUs are actually moving to a point where they are designed with the assumption that not all the resources will be utilised (AVX offset is an example).

With the multi-chip CPUs we also have to start considering the inter-die latency and the delays incurred in NUMA which can further bottleneck you to a certain power of a single core.

Considering prices of 3900x right now, I think I might go for it instead of the 5000 series chips.

Anyone know which stores at SLS are likely to have Ryzen 5000 series on the launch day if any?

I see online they say available from the 5th of November, but those kind of dates tend to be very US specific.

@ AMD’s Full Ryzen 5000 “Zen 3” CPU Stack Pictured, Coming Soon To A Gaming PC Near You!

The full AMD Ryzen 5000 CPU stack which includes the Zen 3 powered Ryzen 9 5950X, Ryzen 9 5900X, Ryzen 7 5800X, and Ryzen 5600X has been pictured in a tweet by HXL (@9550Pro). In the picture, all four CPUs can be seen sitting in a tray and it is likely that these are the first CPU (Retail) samples sent to an OEM or board partner for integration/testing on their new platforms.

The picture shows all four AMD Ryzen 5000 Desktop CPUs sitting in a box tray. These CPUs have their official brandings over the IHS which suggests that these are the final retail samples that will ship out to OEMs, Partners, Reviewers, and Customers in the coming weeks. The OPN codes and serial numbers have been blurred since they can be used to track the main source from where the picture originates.

Assuming AMD release a 5600 next year,how much improvement over a 2600? I might want to replace my 2600 for a 1440p 144hz 100+fps gaming with my 5700xt.

I think the amount of cache PER CORE is still much the same so I wouldn't think so. Unless a lower thread count game can gain access to the extra cache that would normally go to the other cores.

Depends on the game will make use of it or not.
Software optimization sometimes can be surprisingly bring huge improvement

I still think the 3900XT will be a very good choice. 3950X is really not worth for gaming given it does not use that many cores unless you do video editing as well. Think the 3900XT would be far suitable for you given initial launch prices will be crazy and the wait would also be painful. 12 cores / 24 threads will last you for a while plus the XT has a slight increase in clockspeed over the normal 3900X.
i realised i didnt reply this. thanks for the advice!
i decided to wait for zen 3 maybe 5600x or 5800x
because i am scared that i buy 3900x i will regret not waiting for the 5series

most software ain't optimized to use so much cache
so will reduce performance instead
that's why im asking
