watched a little of jay2cents and i felt his reasons were a bit
his 1st reason was because of low stock for PSU.. . okay.... stopped watching after he quoted the 2nd reason
I don't like to watch all these meaningless commentaries/ speculations. The fact is if you need a computer now, just get it. If you don't then simply wait and see since this is a transitional period for both CPU and GPU. Once the new products are released, either scoop up the older parts at a discount, or go for the faster/ newer alternatives. Things like PSU shortage, doesn't affect most people getting a prebuild PC or laptop.

Agreed,.. if your looking for an upgrade and your current PC is still holding up then this is the ONLY scenario that you should wait it out.

And if the above is not you and you need something right away then start some serious planning with a budget in mind so we can help to suggest based on the current market conditions.

Received 3900x on Friday afternoon, was very excited to see how much improvement it has over the 5820K I had been using for 5 years.

Good news is the temp is about the same despite being 2x the cores. The bad news is the transcoding software I use can not make full use of it. eg, the Hybrid with vapoutsynth or MeGUI with AVIsynth+ using QTGMC deinterlacer have just few fps improvement. On Vapoursynth, the CPU usage are 100% on all cores/threads already, On AVIsynth, no amount of tweak will use more than 70% of CPU.

Gave up already, anyone want a few days old 3900X, please PM me.

PSU can change, Corsair RM series isn't best value for money. Since the RMX 2018 series phased out, the inner parts are no longer Japanese capacitator. Suggest you look at Superflower or Seasonic instead.

I am expecting Zen 3 to be a good improvement over the current Zen 2. However, the current Zen 2 is more than enough for me for now.

Same. I'm on a 3950x, I can wait for 5xxx series and DDR5.

The 3080ti will be my next upgrade since I am GPU limited now.

what if 4950X can hit 5GHz + the rumored 15%+ IPC improvement?

off-hand, I can think of a few guys here with 3900X/3950X who will jump at the upgrade

not CPU bottle-necking so until that happens then that will be secondary for me.
