Any ideas why China doesn't copy hm aeron model and oem it?

Sent from Xiaomi POCO F2 PRO using GAGT
I myself also wonder. The design is patented?
Not like it stop them substantially.
Also not like they need to reverse engineer it.
Perhaps actual manufacturing it with comparable materials the cost is not worth their time.
But to see such cheap crap chair with retarded back support spew out by them baffles me.

It should not be too difficult to reverse engineer hm and manufacture in China where labor is cheap and rm is cheaper.
If US can make it at a profit, why not China where labor is cheaper? Hm is a listed company, so margin should be reasonable.

And I doubt it requires any specific machines In the production process that can only be found in US.

HM Aeron is a design that has been In market for 10+ years? Cannot be not enough time to copy...

i saw this before. didnt realized it is a aeron clone...interesting it is made in korea.
i went to kliig to try some of the made in korea chairs.
he said they have been in business for more than 10 years.
but my experience there was not good. the moving parts seems too rigid.
build quality seems so so only.

will definitely recommend to go test out this clone before buying

FYI it is trash.

I bought it from hipvan, it starts breaking down after 1 year part by part.

Obviously the mesh is inferior compared to real HM.
kandinsky likes this.

The reason it’s not copied is that to build something similar to Aeron it wouldn’t actually cost much less. If you have an Aeron and know the quality of the chair, you know it’s not cheap to build something like this.

but hm being a listed company means there is still reasonable profit margin to be made from the product.
And labor in US is definitely higher than China..

It wouldn't be more profitable than the crap chair, but they would corner the aeron clone market...

Problem is if duplicate is only slightly cheaper, or even 30-40% cheaper, people would rather buy the original one. There need to be significant markup for clones to be worth it. Eg fashion brands with 80-90% profit margin.

i believe it is atwood.. i just did a quick search.
can share your price of chair + freight + any applicable duties?
are you not concern about lemon set or warranty?
Yes, Atwood is the authorised distro. I ride on my friend's ezbuy Prime account to buy it, so shipping is flat $2.99. As for defects on arrival, can also go thru ezbuy to dispute (done it before, if cannot resolve, can ask for refund and return of item). Once all is good, I don't think they will spoil easily because for ergo chairs, once you got the right position, not likely you will keep meddling with the mechanism.

In today's market, you always see new ID firms, their tactic is to open for a couple of years, close and set up new company again to evade some thingy. So Carousell sellers might close overnight too especially nowadays they are booming due to WFH. When more people return to work, demand might fall and it might not be sustainable for them.

The thing with purchases from Taobao is that while it is indeed slightly cheaper, there are certain issues that are sometimes not as clear cut for a fix. My friend also ordered an Ergohuman from Taobao last year and it came with a squeaking inside mechanism when he leans back and forth. Annoyed the hell out of him, but the seller didn't justify that as sufficient to send a replacement of the whole base, asked him to spray lubricant instead he couldn't open the mechanism case and find where the squeak was coming from... ended up having to live with an expensive squeaky chair. End of the day, ordering overseas is always a bet, just whether you're willing to take the bet especially for an expensive purchase. For those who do, sometimes you win on savings, sometimes you lose when issues arises.

so i was reading up on the warranty policies on ergotune and ergohuman.

ERGOHUMAN
5 Year Limited Warranty
The product is subject to 5 years limited warranty from the date of issue, address indicated on the invoice.
1st Year: On Site and parts free of charge
2nd Year: Parts and labour free of charge. However transportation charge to site is applicable.
3rd to 5th Year: Parts at 50% discount. However, labour & transportation charge to site is applicable.
From 3rd year to 5th year, all transportation, delivery, handling and labour charges are applicable on the customer and are not covered by this warranty protection.

ERGOTUNE
ErgoTune: Skeletal Frame, Aluminium Frame, Wheelbase and Polyamide Frame – [10 years]
ErgoTune: Lumbar Support and Central Mechanism Hub – [5 years]
ErgoTune: Armrest Mechanism, Casters Mechanism and Gas Lift – [3 years]
(and many more exclusion and exceptions. too long to post)

My qns is are most so called warranties similar to this?
Even the heavenly HM chairs?

i get put off by these warranties.
if a company put 5 years warranty i expect within the 5 years any issue i call them and they resolve FOC.
is that too much to ask for?
