cannot open more cans of worms leh, money no enough
after some readup on Woo Audio stuffs, WA22 kinda attractive but price is not

did a quick check on weight of LCDs headphones, almost 600g is indeed considerably heavier than most headphones, will have to see how it goes when trying it
seems not much talk on PM-1/PM-2 headphones around too

thanks for your comments, appreciate it

thanks xuan87 on shredding some light on DACs to me

quite a lot of brands/type to go through, just wondering if most are available for audition locally.
If you like WA22, do also consider the cheaper WA2. But the WA2 is a single-ended, OTL tube amp, which in theory sounds good with high-impedance phone, but not so with low impedance phone.

As for the Audeze's phones, not only the weight you have to consider, but also the clamp force. For me, I can listen for 2-3 hours on LCD-X, but the older pre-fazors LCD gave me nausea after 30-45 mins due to the clamp force.

For Oppo's PM1/2, I do find their SQ a bit like LCD-2, so if you can't take the weight/clamp of the Audeze's do give them a listen. Between the PM1 and 2, I do find the PM2 is a mich better value.

If you don't mind the added clutter, can consider a separate DAC and amp instead. With that you have more room to play around each component.... as over time you may want to look into another sig, or upgrade either one, or change form (tube amp) etc. You know such occasional thoughts don't always come together one... as in want to upgrade both DAC and amp at the same time. You may have close shop on DAC and want to continue exploring amps, or the other way round.

With an integrated, common sentiments is... if it is meant to be built as a DAC, the amp section may be just average. If it is meant to be built as an amp, the DAC may now become the average. You want to improve it, gotta add DAC or amp, then end up spend even more. With separates, you get more flexibility and get to optimised your budget. But of course, probably cost you more than an integrated

Anyway, besides the options you mentioned, can check out the Marantz HD-DAC1 at Alpha Audio @Adelphi. Also an integrated. Feedback seems good. Costs slightly above $1k.
Marantz HD-DAC1 plus 1...super fap...

Walao newbie with $3k budget is alot leh... my setup also don't have so much

Yeah do check out the Bursons and Woos. For Woo Audio, try to aim for at least a WA6, or better still, WA6SE or WA2. WA7 is rather "weak" both as an integrated or standalone amp IMO.

Besides allocating some budget for USB cable, if you aim separates, don't forget to allocate some for interconnects too. General rule of thumb say around 20-30% of system on cabling, which includes power cables (if you don't wanna use stock kettle cords), USB cable and interconnects.
Yeah...WA6SE plus 1...super fap...

Is the DAC1 setup for audition? it's a little intimidating to walk into these hifi shops if you know what I mean.. and the staff don't look exactly friendly.

They have a demo unit...you can ask them to setup for you to test...
Best if you bring your own music source and headphones along...

This month weng is my master...
The built-in amp of HD-DAC1 is really good...can drive HD800 and T1 with ease...with the slightly warm sound signature you won't hear harsh sound on HD800...but of course WA6SE makes HD800 to a different level...

like that means I need to go hoot a HD800 then go find dac/amp liao
If you dun have HD800 then no need lah...
Just bring the headphones you have for audition will do...see the pairing with your headphones is good or not...

Fixed if using it as pure DAC and the amp has its own volume control.

Variable if connecting to a pure power amp without any volume control and using the HD-DAC1's volume control (as a preamp).

RCA can walk around Adelphi and look see the common hifi brands. Read read reviews and if possible test them out with your gear then decide.

I need a desktop dac/amp. Budget <$650. Running Fidelio x2. Currently on Fio E12 and Astro Mixamp TR(dont laugh).

Looking at M/M Uber stack but i dont know if its worth it at 600+ price point compared to other options.

Mini Noob Review of my first 2 dac
Track used 1 each
Drum Jazz, Guitar acoustic, Piano piece and Pop vocalist
Headphones: AKG K7XX

Racoon SG300

Very soothing, deep and punchy
Exciting on track climax but can be loud.

Dragonfly

Very clear, clean and detailed
Easy on the ear even on track climax.

Overall i prefer Racoon it makes me move to the music lol...but dragonfly is portable n usb powered can't be directly compared to ext. dac
