Not really. UM2 can be very revealing. Depends on your source and fit. But downside of UM2 is it shines at a louder volume. So if you listen to low vol, its not very impressive. Not as good as ER4P at low low vol.
Um2 needs abit more power to reveal itself...i tested it w a portable amp and it sure sounds different as when w/o amp...certainly more revealing at low volumes

the more complex the design of the earphones (more components, more circuitries), the more they are resembles headphones.

the way to go is to use amp to drive them effectively

Not only that, it needs a good source too. But all earphones will improve with an amp. Even a Cresyn, more body.

i just bought a UM1 at 170.10 from Stereo

although i wanted a CK7 in the beginning, it just didn't impress me and i prefer the way the UM1 sounds~~~

might post a highly opinionated review later...

Use a better source? Try on a CD player. I dunno bout track screwed up with cracking. Re-rip your mp3s? Use 192kbps and above.

You have to remember that the UM1 is a much more revealling earphone than your stock ones. It will reveal the flaws or faults of a crappy source. Try on a CD player or a decent mp3 source/quality.

When compared to my EX71, my UM1 produces more detailed sounds than the EX71.
