i suggest you head down to stereo/jaben, tell the salesman your budget and things you are looking for in the headphones and they will recommend you headphones and let you try it on.

that would be the safest bet instead of buying headphones based on what people recommend you cause different people have different criteria they are looking for in the the headphones.

Headphone can mean all.
It can mean in-ear headphone, or Circumaural headphone or supra-aural headphone.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headphones

So, he needs to say which one he means.

Check if applicable.

By Fit:
[ ] Earbud Headphones
[ ] Over-the-Ear Headphones
[ ] On-the-Ear Headphones

Sound isolation:
[ ] I wanna hear people talking (also could mean that ppl can listen to what u r hearing)
[ ] I dun wanna hear my mom screaming at me
[ ] doesn't matter

Portability is:
[ ] Very important, something that can folded up and kept in a small package.
[ ] Important, something that can run off my iPod/clip/etc without an amplifier.
[ ] Not important, I can carry an portable amp / using at home; carry 3m long cable with me too.

Music Genre / Preference:
[ ] Rock
[ ] Pop
[ ] Jazz
[ ] Classical
[ ] Funk
[ ] Hip Hop
[ ] Dance
[ ] Jay Chou (can end the quiz, since it all sounds muffled. iBuds will do )
[ ] Others: _______________

And the sound preferably...:
[ ] Bass and more bass!
[ ] Clarity isss more important
[ ] More fun... OMGWTFTHISROCK for rock!
[ ] Analytical
[ ] I don't really know what I want yet.

Looks:
[ ] Something Dr Dre-ish or Apple-ish
[ ] As long it's not ugly
[ ] dont' give a d**n. A Grado is fine too.
[ ] Others: _______________

Budget range: $____________

Other considerations:
eg. microphone, noise cancelling, wireless, sports.
