Recommendations for Phones with DAC?

Hi,

I'm using Shure SE535 for casual listening on my phone.
Recently found out that LG V30 has quad DAC. Not sure how much of a difference that will make in the overall listening experience.

Any advice on which phone to pair with my se535?

You can't go wrong with the V30. I have V20 and it has made public transport great again. Just googled and see for yourself. Then go test drive.

Some ideas for you to try before you go off to get a new phone.

1. If you are listening to MP3/AAC try lossless music 16/44 variety or even better 24/44 and up. Most phones should be able to playback 16/44 FLAC (ALAC on iPhone)
2. Try a different music playback app. Google!
3. Try the Equaliser setting in the app, maybe you just need some treble/bass boost.
4. A good pair of noise cancelling headphones works magic on the bus/mrt.

LG V20 and G5 or better have built in DAC and an audio player to handle Hi-Res audio including DSD, each have their own subtle differences though.

Good luck!

All phones have DACs.

Also, did a blind test among 5 friends with the samsung S8,S9,LG G5, V20 and 30, p-value not enough to confirm null hypothesis(distinguishable between DACs), so i wouldn't worry too much about them if I were you. Just get the one that supports the most codecs, which is usually samsung.

Also, there are other things to worry about that arguably impact your perception of the music apart from the DACs, like the environment. If youre gonna listen outside like public transport its gonna be too noisy to perceive any audible difference anyway.
