why use bread maker ah?

oven cannot meh? pro bakers also dont use bread makers.
Kneading the dough by hand can be quite time consuming for busy souls. The bread maker just makes it convenience to churn out perfect fluffy loaves fresh when you need them. You can just add the ingredients in before you turn in to sleep, set the timer and when you get up, you have a fresh loaf waiting for you.

At the moment, to get a fresh loaf I get up at 3am in the morning, do my kneading, go back to sleep, get up at 5 to do the second proofing before popping into the oven. Not everyone has that luxury of time.

as for xmas.. my mom's now dropping hints for a breadmaker! can someone PLEASE PLEASE point me in the right direction? which brands are cheap and good?

she has her eye on this one; PANASONIC BREAD MAKER (360W) SDP104 Bread Maker - Courts Online Shopping

but 300+ for a toy that she use for 1 month then forget about it.. i abit heart pain :/

masterchef wizzy, which breadmaker are you using?
You could consider this Mayer - Mayer Bread Maker (MMBM10) . It's $88 for a Mayer Bread Maker which is a nice price for a "branded" item.

If you have the time, you might want to pop into their showroom to take a look.

Well, I have fingers like an aged person so I can comment that kneading bread can be very hard for older people with arthritis or rheumatism. So a breadmaker might come in useful as well.

Ironically, during physiotherapy we are given soft dough like stuff to knead gently to exercise our fingers. It is good for us but not when it is too prolonged or the dough too hard. I actually like kneading bread but it does get painful during cold days or if the dough is too big.

@bella,

welp, the empirical evidence shows that GMO food is safe for consumption.. but ultimately it is up to you to decide.. but i think the main takeaway from the article is that GMO crops may have an undeserved bad reputation.

I actually lugged a bread maker from Brisbane when I was on work assignment there in the early 2000 but that died many years ago.

@xerref: You can consider the Donlim bread maker at gmarket, one of the cheapest on the market so far. If you look at the equivalent listings at taobao (Donlim is Chinese brand internationalized), this one got very good reviews generally. It has been selling well for many years so it is a good beginner tool.

I doubt your mum will religiously bake using the bread maker for long... this is an alright toy for her to play with,

But why the heck do you need one anyway? You posted your pretty baked creations before. You used an oven? Then don't need any bread maker lah... just put aside half an hour of your time and teach your mother how to bake. Impart 1% of your skill to her and she will be all set.
