Share my humble hoot. Nothing compare to what most people have here. Many recommended not to go for combo blade but i really like the style. Anyway just want to have a simple and good knife for edc and traveling use.

a) S90V? Freaking hard to sharpen
b) S110V impossible to sharpen
c) CTS-XHP takes time to sharpen
d) Japan knives? Lower angle sharpening
e) M390 is the same as CPM 20CV... a fine steel with good everything. Freaking hard to sharpen also. I got a GSO 5.1 fixed blade in CPM 20CV
f) yxr7 is like a CPM 3V but super high hardness. should not be too hard to sharpen. but dun expect it to be tough like 3V.
g) S7? I love toughness steel like S7 on my axes. Easy to sharpen. if heat treat properly, it is super tough!
h) CPM M4 is another tough son of bitches! its just not stainless... so it rust. another hard to sharpen bastar...
Still got another steel I dunno haha. Cpm 20cv.

Of course I hope buddies let me do those users edc one better, I also dun one to upset if not they want. . Haha

Your comment on those more exotic one makes me "harder". Seems challenging. Will not know until I try.. Haha

Got to look into more collections to widen. Great thanks.

Rockstead??? Heavenly better not sharpen by anyone because I believe only they have done the edge perfectly.

Bro, he posted already. Yrx-7 with a titanium dlc coating. Yrx-7 is a high speed steel, which is non stainless, therefore the coating is needed.

those rocksteads are SEXY..... not quite JL sexy but SEXY STEEL...

and in the meantime, both of these are available at below online dealer price + shipping (which in any case is certainly much lower than any local shop). They're looking for new homes...hit me up if you want but no lowball ok?

Happy Sunday.

publicizing some deals (clearing out the cupboard and raising cash for other projects):

1. zt801 elmax stonewashed - USD212 via paypal or SGD270 cash and carry

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/89...-post7309.html

2. barbudo custom olivewood handled puukko - sold

3. poltergeistworks custom 3210 folder with tritium thumbstud and CTS-XHP blade at USD730 via paypal or SGD935 cash and carry

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/88...-post7212.html

4. brous-turpin semi-custom strife - sold

non-knife:

5. osprey aether60 backpack - sold

6. kifaru G2 xray foliage green - SGD630 cash and carry with free knife (CRKT Ikoma Fossil)

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/ge...y-4764694.html

no trades please, this old man needs liquidity.

one time special deal - buy the poltergeistworks and puukko combo, or, the kifaru xray and puukko/poltergeistworks combo, and I'll throw in a very rare search and rescue folder (it's only sold directly to navy/coast guard personnel in the US). PM me for details if you are serious. It's not a cheap folder and is not sold to general public, nor, can you buy one easily in the aftermarket without paying a hefty price.

thanks.

Thursday morning rambling

I'm finishing up my coffee and getting ready for work...thought I'd ramble a little before scooting off.

Is the knife hunt more important for you than the knife itself? I have been listening to several discussions (forum and IRL) on a person's quest for a knife - be it a grail or the latest model in the market. Some would wax lyrical on the greatest discounts, how they bargained down a seller, how they perceived that they were ripped off because they paid above MSRP/MAP/maker's price etc. Shopping for deals is all good but is that what attracts you to the knife in the first place or do you actually put your knife to good use? either as an aesthetic you admire or a tool you use or a combo of both?

Are you happiest when you have a good tool that fits your hand (we could go on about ergos and how it's different from person to person), is well made, and has the aesthetics that YOU like?

Or are you happiest to be able to score a knife at low prices...but immediately after that it goes into your sealed box/safe/pelican/cupboard...whereupon you begin your bargain hunting again?

For some, the hunt is more important than the prize. For others the end product is paramount.

How do you swing?

I received a nice chopper lately...it wasn't the greatest/most beautiful knife, but I'm glad to have it. It was bought to cement or further cement a friendship. The hunt was not in question. Neither was the end product (although it's really nice). What was important was the underlying relationship. It's beyond tangible currency.

Have a good day
