Thanks for your advice! I am considering in getting a system 3 instead for the convenience of a single installation. My master bedroom is around 2.65 m2 [required BTU at 9041.8] while my other bedrooms are around 1.97m2 [required BTU at 6721.64]. Daikin CTKS25QVM has a cooling capacity of 8530 BTU. Will it be enough to cool the master bedroom or do I need the CTKS35QVM unit [cooling capacity 11940BTU]? By the way I have a DC ceiling fan in the master bedroom.

Hi,

It will be good to ask for a written job scope for the "servicing". Most air conditioner companies use the word servicing but in actual they only do cleaning job.

Such work can be done by anyone without the need for skill, even maids can also do it.

Now with easy clean in most models, cleaning is now easier.

So, ask for the job scope and quote.

The above are my opinion and hope that they are helpful

Thanks! Your advice is very helpful!

Hi,

Is your bedrooms size given correct?

2.65m2 is only 1m X 2.65m, it is hardly possible to put a bed in it.

1.97m2 is only 1m X 1.97m, which is even smaller.

Pls counter check the sizes.

Hi,

The CTKS is the indoor FCU model number. Do you have your decided condenser outdoor model number? Need to pair them to check compatibility.

Hi,

From my understanding, cu noise can be contributed by a number of factors such as:
1. Air flow path through the cu.
2. Rate of air flow.
3. Type of fan,
Axial,
Centrifugal or
Cross flow.
4. The design of the condenser fins and location.
5. The types of compressor,
Reciprocating.
Scroll.
Screw.
Rotary.
Centrifugal.
6. The design of the cu casing, suspension and mounting.
7. Mounting configuration.

But all the above factors can be "zero" down to one criteria except above point 7, which is the cu noise level in dB. This criteria is provided in all product specification classified as outdoor unit noise level.

The above are my opinion and hope that they are helpful.

Hi,

The StarMEX single split 4 ticks is MSY-GE10VA / MUY-GE10VA. It is not a 5 ticks model. Search the internet, you should be able to come a cross some dealers selling this model combination at less than $1k include installation. Good to invite the installer to view the location of the FCU and condenser as some installation can be very straight forward due to the proximity of these two components.

However, there is a proximity limitation on how close these two components can be. Check the installation spec. and ensure that the installer add addition length of pipes if needed to meet the requirement.

In my opinion, it is always best to change all your pipes and wires when replacing your air conditioner with a new one.

NEVER NEVER accept brazing joint with new pipes. This is because, in Singapore, brazing is done without the use of nitrogen by many irresponsible installers. This leaves impurities in the pipes that are likely to cause components failure and expensive repair in future.

Get more information on this at: https://youtu.be/YcLoLbr3WSE

At times, you may have very irresponsible installer insisting on brazing a joint and in such situation, you have to insist that he do it with nitrogen or other ways without brazing.

As you are paying for new pipes, there should be no reason for the installer to joint the pipes. New pipes (coils) come in length of 15m, which is sufficient for most installation.

It is therefore important that you observe the installer when they insert the pipes into the insulation to check whether they had done any brazing on these pipes ( they do it to safe cost by jointing left over pipes collected from other installation). Once they insert the pipes into the insulation, it is difficult to inspect for brazing joints. So, inform the installer that you wish to inspect the pipes before they insert it into the insulation.

You will be at the losing end if you accept brazing joints. You have your right to insist that they use completely new pipes (coils).

The above are my opinion and hope that they are helpful.

Yes I'll be getting these MSY-GE10VA / MUY-GE10VA. Thought they are changed to two ticks already?

Any recommendations for good installer?

They said cannot drill hole to hold the bracket to hold the blower and also mentioned about the routing of the cable.

All pillars and beams (those solid concrete parts of your house that runs vertically and horizontally) are normally not left bare. Wherever they are exposed, they are always covered with a layer of plaster cement.

This plaster cement is about an 3/4 to an inches thick.

The installation plate of the FCU does not required deep fastens as they are normally light about 10kg. The manufacturer's spec. only required 5 pieces of 1 inches screws.

There should not be any reason of not able to mount the FCU on the beam.

However, some of the beam may not have sufficient height to accommodate the FCU and the required gap from the ceiling to the FCU to allow sufficient air to enter it which has a min. of 54mm for some StarMEX models.

To overcome this, a simple cornice box can be created below the beam to allow the FCU to be slightly lower to meet the gap requirement as well as to cover the pipes and wiring.

Running the pipes and wiring on the beam is no different from running it at another location.

You may wish to have more installers view this installation location for their comments. Nevertheless, the installer is the one that need to do the job and if he cannot do it (not that it cannot be done) then, either you get another person to do the job or you bend your need.

The above are my opinion and hope that they are helpful.

Hi,

The spec still indicates that they are 4 ticks.

Sorry, I do not recommend installer. There are many hit and run in this field and your pre-discussion on your requirements is important. Some requirement may need to be written in your order documents to avoid later dispute.

Vigilant over the way the installers go about in their job and doing checking at key points of the installation process is important.

Though you are paying for the job, you would still need to be involved to ensure quality and prevent future costly repair to your system.

There may be some disagreement with the installers at times during the installation process as you insist that they comply to your requirement but never give in. This is where the written agreement comes in.

The above are my opinion and hope that they are helpful.

I have decided to get either the MKS65QVMG or the MKS80QVMG. Will I be overloading the MKS65QVMG if I turn on 3 units in the future?

Do I need to change the power point if I changing to starmex or daikin? Currently using window unit with the 3 pins plug

Sent from Xiaomi MI PAD 2 using GAGT

Hi,

If I am not wrong, the window unit air conditioner uses a 15A 3 pin plug, those rounded pins, not rectangle pins.

Though, some split unit air conditioners (lower capacity units) use only 10 A according to their specification, it is normal to have a 20A power point so that there is not mistake of connecting a higher capacity unit to it.

Different amperes power points would need to have different:
1. Overload breaker
2. Wires size
3. Isolator switch

In the event that you use a 15A power point for a 20A load, eg an air conditioner that uses 20A, then you will have frequent tripping of the breaker and also the possibility of your wires overheating.

It is good to do it once and do it right the first time.

The above are my opinion and hope that they are helpful
