Air conditioning - Any recommendations please??

As above... looking into air conditioning 3 bedrooms and the living room.. my contractor quoted me $3.7k for a 4:1(2 compressors inside) toshiba system with inverter.

is it expensive?

any lobang/recommendations?

is daikin or mitsubishi better?

Nakedtoes 14-03-2007 09:23 PM

Both are good but i did a research mitshibushi is better... try Hong tai in IMM.. i regret nv get from them... and i regret to get from ALLBEST.. :s27:

Do you really need air con in living room?? or on only weekends?? if only weekends then dun bother ;)

kenloonglow 08-04-2007 12:20 AM

kenloonglow 08-04-2007 08:23 AM

Can hints hints where can get that price ? :P

iMbEst 22-04-2007 02:35 AM

i dunno why so many people buy the 3 diamond brand, i think it's due to advertisement.

Panasonic and other brands are producing much better quality aircon FYI.....

kenloonglow 23-04-2007 02:06 PM

I think Easy to clean? hehe. Can tell us more Y other brand better and which one u mean - Panasonic (ion-plasma), Fujitsu, Sharp, LG (slim + colorful), Samsung?

I think you mean Hong Tar right? For those need the contact, do a search 'Hong Tar' in the net and will find the contact.

I bought my system 3 star mex from them, non-inverter 1.9K+ that time almost 1 yr ago. Service very good. They install the things properly and not rushing the work. They will go on-site to check & discuss where to lay the trunking. Arranged another date and will instal it.

Bought Mitshubishi coz it claims to be the quietest aircon at the point when i bought mine. And true enough, I don't find it noisy. I am those who cannot sleep with noise/ sound. Confirm wake up.

Nakedtoes 30-05-2007 11:59 PM

Wow they increase price or air con price went up?? non inverter cost 1.5k abt 1.5 yrs ago inverter only $1.7K ;)

ekardo 04-06-2007 11:59 PM

I think weather becoming more and more hot..so aircon price also go up..

I went to IMM last weekend and checked on Allbest and also Besttech, price is around $1838 (gst not in yet)

but after reading singaporebride....I think I better avoid them..haha

as for Mitsubishi...come to think of it...do you really clean the aircon yourself? so what if it's easy clean ?

I think most of us wouldn't bother to clean the aircon until something wrong, and when something wrong, it's too late to clean yourself also...haha

I am thinking of Daikin now...(Daikin makes only Aircon..think about it...)
any review on Daikin ??

iMbEst 05-06-2007 12:35 AM

it's not worth the money, i have heard enough bad comments about Daikin, although my aunt's place all daikin, no much problem. Think the workmanship is still the key, especially for Daikin brand.

Panasonic is still one of the most durable one. You dun wait until got problem then ask people clean lah, by right you shall clean the filter once every 3-4 months one.

ekardo 05-06-2007 01:20 AM

but I think if you asked around...nobody clean one..or at least 90% of the pple..

mitsubishi got give free lesson on how to clean ??

iMbEst 05-06-2007 01:28 AM

aiyo, basic cleaning is just to take out the filter, wash it, dry it, then put back lah. If you want sophisticated cleaning, you shall engage the pro.....later spoil your aircon how?

90%? or "majority"? i dun think it's 90% lor.

blackslayer 05-06-2007 02:31 AM

Mitsubishi better bah.. my 2 living rooms..and 4 rooms. all Mitsubishi. their inverter strong and powerful..

Nakedtoes 05-06-2007 08:39 PM

Dun buy from allbest or what best one.. all the same boss their workmanship is lousy... I would choose mitsubishi or daikin for aircon... panasonic is national last time which is very very good but now the quality is not as good as national and the compressor are noisy..

iMbEst 05-06-2007 11:10 PM

National was under matsush*ta what? what not so good?

ekardo 10-06-2007 02:48 AM

went to so many places recommended by friends...natural cool..hongtar...and some no company one..
their quotation is scary..

and know what? I ordered from All best (sharp system 3)...

wish me "all the best" ?? :)

mailmail 10-06-2007 11:02 AM

must avoid ALL BEST at all cost. brought a system 3 LG non-inverter from them about 2 yrs ago.now always giving me this sweating problem(water vapor on the air con pipe casing)
the aircon piping is route from my master bed room to my room n the sweating effect came when master bed room never on the aircon.call all best technician to take a look n they say it normal cos master bedroom never on air con so the room is hot where the air con pipe is cold so water vapor form.rubbish lah that mean if i on air con on my room my master bed room also must on lor.i believe if the insulation of the air con piping is good this will never happen lor. so i find the installation of the air con is very very important then the brand.

ekardo 10-06-2007 01:39 PM

you did not conceal your air con pipe ? or are you referring to the Air con Duct??

mailmail 12-06-2007 10:46 AM

of cos i referring to the air con duct

iMbEst 12-06-2007 11:15 AM

improper insulation and installation will lead to all these leaking one. Most of them give you the so called "1 year workmanship warranty" which is bullsh*t as it will start giving you problem from 2nd years onwards unless you do not turn on frequently......

ReadLessMoreTV 12-06-2007 06:15 PM

what abt toshiba? At least the compressor is MIJ with respect to to mitsubi shi which is made in thailand

iMbEst 12-06-2007 06:50 PM

aiya, i said liao, workmanship is more important than the brand........dun just go blindly for what stupid 3 diamond brand lah.

blackslayer 14-06-2007 03:52 AM

that's true... and it depends on which shop u buy from too.

blackslayer 14-06-2007 03:54 AM

If TS wants..i can recommend mine..good workmanship. quoted me for 5k less than 5.5k. for my mitsubishi inverter. one wide and long for my living room. 4 small one for my other 4 rooms..

wuga98 14-06-2007 04:30 PM

i think hong tar is no more in IMM, do you know where they are now?

ekardo 14-06-2007 05:04 PM

check their website lor..

HT/NC/GC all ok? anyone that are more preferred over the other? reasonable cost , good workmanship and support?

Bad Aircon Carre4 installation

The contractor called me up on morn of installation and 'persuaded' me to use grey insulation instead of black as written on agreement (black better, this was advised by my aircon supervisor cousin) - no choice but agreed as he was insistent.

And when they came to install, they dragged the heavy airconditioner through the main hall and spoilt the floor. Without using any plastic protective cover, they drill and the stone fragments are lying all over the bedroom and also mar my bedroom parquet floor when they sweep!

Bad experience. Carre4 airconditioning section is actually belonging to Trends Home Electrical.

ekardo 20-06-2007 03:33 PM

this is a very good thread for "Air con company to avoid"

I am risking my $2k to test on Allbest...haha..

iMbEst 20-06-2007 03:47 PM

things you shall invest properly one you dun spend, things dun need to pay so much one you go and waste $$$ on sigh.....

ok45sg 20-06-2007 11:52 PM

Belllyache abt Carre4's aircon installers

To continue, I was giving the 'tai-chi' round-a-round when I complained to Carre4 re damaged parquet floor on account of worker's sloppy work.

It seems Carre4 called up the contractor and it was the contractor's installation worker who called me to apologise instead(shouldn't the boss be responsible for its worker's mess?!) saying he can't afford to compensate me as he's just a worker. Wat can I do? - I don't want him out of a job, so I am forced to accept his apology.

It still rankles and hence this thread of caution to anyone out there

Wonder if there's any punishment meted in hell for these irresponsible workers? :s27:

Bro,

I recently bought a new 4 room flat, so thinking to do air-conditioning on the 3 rooms.

What are the pointers to look for for on workmanship?

As you have mentioned, Insulation and installation. So how do we know if the contractors have done a good job?

Are there more insulation types of foam other than grey and black?

Kindly advise as I know nothing on all these, but wanna avoid making mistakes.

Thanks.

5 yr warranty?? dun believe their bullsh1t.. read their conditions and fine print carefully ;)

ok45sg 27-06-2007 02:26 PM

2 cts' or less worth

1)Insulation Piping Class 1 or 0-
Oops, don't know any much better but my aircon cousin told me black insulation piping is better than grey -

Well, I needed to buy another set of air-con for another flat - same , Toshiba, made in Thailand. I finally bought from Gain City which my aircon supervisor originally advised- I paid $150 more than at Carre4- price of peace of mind:)

At Gain City, they have other thicker insulations but cost more, they will advise you.
For me, I just took the black piping vs the grey piping when they ask me to select for normal installation.

2) Drainage pipe - bigger better, but cost more?

Less pipe joints - so less problem at joints.

3) Ask for experienced installer & then pray.

ekardo 27-06-2007 02:55 PM

colour doesn't mean anything..

for insulation, go for minimum Totaline..

Armaflex seems to be better..

normally they give 3/8"...if you can afford...go for 1/2 inch..

yah yah yah, charge you 5x more and give you 5 years warranty mah, like that I also know lah....

aiyo, as others said, dun believe such bullsh*t okay? if it's good, it doesn't need any warranty :) got problem, give them a call, will response within 24hr. simple as that, but dun think i need to use that kind of service :D

ok45sg, drop them a call, and tell them you're going to raise a case to small claim tribunal, see if the boss will reply to you or not. I can't remember how much liao, but $20 is enough to give him tons of trouble to go down and meet the judge and forced to pay you. But I dunno how much is your aircon, may not qualified for SCT though.....

just talk to the boss and said it's his responsibility to handle the screw upsz. Nothing to do with the worker, he won't get out of job one.

ekardo 28-06-2007 04:03 PM

well...your statement not really right..

last time TV can last 20 over years...they also give 5 years warranty...then why suddenly change to only 1 year?? because they are good? Bring good doesn't mean there will not be problem.

Fixing Aircon is a very complicated process...anyway..remember, even the best chef can have a bad mood day too...

iMbEst 28-06-2007 05:00 PM

workmanship and goods warranty are different, how can you just compare apple and orange like that?

when your aircon spoilt , you dun look for aircon man, you look for the manufacturer.....

ekardo 29-06-2007 08:46 AM

exactly...so both warranty is required..

Aircon installation is not like normal electronics appliances...where you can buy and run...
comparing companyA giving no workmanship and companyB giving 5 years workmanship...(at not extra cost...this is not like extended warranty dude)

you will choose company A, just becos u think "good things shouldn't spoilt" ? that's more crap I think....

jus saw this thread today. my sanyo aircon is bought from allbest. 1st day install aircon not cold already. fix for 2 times still same results. in the end call the sanyo engineer come.

turns out allbest contractor fix the pipes thingy wrongly. the gas leak thus not cold. sanyo engineer fix the problem liao but 3 months later, the problem exists again. i have totally give up on my master room's aircon liao. might be changing it soon.

so mainly my advise is dont go allbest and dont buy sanyo. they can promise u the skies etc when u buy ur things, but do remember read abt the fine prints etc. the compressor wires pipes etc, i see other houses 1 all nicely use conceal but mine the allbest contractor just left it a mess . complains also useless lol....

ekardo 30-06-2007 02:52 AM

puck..
who is the installer from Allbest?

iMbEst 30-06-2007 07:26 AM

ekardo, i really wish you good luck man.....despite all the bad comments about them, you still go ahead lol!

I never trust any company in the market, I only trust the installer who is most familiar with my floorplan, that means, the one who already installed many many times in my area :D

but sometimes it depends on your luck lah, bad installer doesn't mean sure screw up or they would have been out of job liaoz.......see how you press them and how they tekan you lor, if things turn sour....

those haven't bought anything yet, try to get recommendation from your neighbours, not your left right neighbours hoh, it's as many neighbours as possible.....I met about 3-4 recommendations and all cmi one, the moment you compare the way they tell you how they run the piping, you should have the gut feeling about their capability :D I actually paid $3040 for an Envio system 3 + 24K/Btu single split. My neighbour's fancoil PCB spoilt on the 2nd day, but it was rectified and replaced by Panasonic. If workmanship is good, dun need warranty one lah.

croc1977 30-06-2007 08:05 AM

any comment abt best tec h?
