I stay minutes from Tiong Bahru market, never find the coffee here nice.
The Yong seng coffee are super dark whether is columbian or what, is more for "kopi".
The son opens an electronic shop near ABC market and they sell coffee beans there too.

In fact, i remember their columbian was even more bitter than their common blend which is funny cause it's so dark until could taste zero fruitiness so it's moot. If I guess it correct, the coffee isn't rested long enough plus being super dark roast, that's why the crema seems so thick. It's even more bitter than the 80% robusta Italian roast i bought elsewhere, at least that could taste more balance with equally good crema.

That hupseng is also nearby but it's the same case. :(

Another quick question.
What pre-infusion you guys running?

my current setup is
18g bean
94deg
7 sec pre-infusion
23 sec extraction
= total 30 sec
about 42g out.

find that little over extracted.. slight bitter.

i tried playing with the grind setting, but still cant find a good spot.
Even if you can find the perfect spot today, few days later when the coffee oxidises, the spot moves. :(
I suggest don't put too much time in the process and enjoy your coffee more. :o

cowhead and paul prices inflated ...

so change to meiji 2L, and find that it taste sweeter than cowhead, both after steaming and when cold.

anyone else? :o

Get the milk with the highest fat content. :o

meiji blue still works the best for me

meiji red has higher fat content, quite hard to steam it properly

tried farm fresh milk and it taste kinda funny to me (soy flavour undertone)

wah...missed it !!! where u find the promo?

I had coffee bean from perks TIMO dark roasted and it is damn hard to hard grind even when i just received it. Feel like it will break my grinder handle..

Any reason for the bean being so hard ? feels like grinding rock

the red one ish about 10-20c more sexpensive

i got it because blue was sold out one day, on it's own actually quite nice to drink

iirc it's about 4.2g of fat per 100ml or something

Meiji milk if I'm not wrong is using Jersey cows. Same as those in hokkaido which taste thicker and sweeter than those sold at other prefectures.

Can't confirm. Just suspecting base on its texture and taste. :o

Maybe really got rocks inside?

Last time my relative bought some beans for me. There was a small metal nut inside and it destroyed my grinder. :(

Hi
Have been a nespresso drinker for years now and now decided to try getting a proper espresso machine.

anyone has recommendation for budget of ~$1K ?

Am looking at the Breville barista express ($1,099) actually. looks pretty good value and comes w inbuilt grinder. anyone who has this has any feedbacks ? Hows the milk steamer ? can do latte art ?

Another option is the Gaggia classic pro ($898) with another $200-$300 for grinder.

Would recommend getting separate espresso machine and grinder so that you can upgrade the grinder separately in the future.

whenever you guys buy new beans, how do you get the recipe /brew ratio for the beans ?
do you guys usually trial and error ?
just feel bit of wastage this way as usually first few cups would be thrown away.
