Oh

From the picture there's a reason why the Yamaha can't use toroid.

I don't think the shielding is for the transformer anyway. Maybe more for whatever is under the copper foil perhaps?

I mean the two orange foils partially covering the heatsink of the amp chip. There are inductors underneath.

Typically toroidal transformers are not used for SMPS.

I see....mainly when i get to choose amp,cd player, preamp and etc....will always look for toroidal transformer than EI transformers as i think toroidal has more power efficiency and lower noise floor....as EI's air gaps between the plates of a laminated transformer can cause them to vibrate against each other resulting noise.....the only thing i quite curious about are bel canto's mono amp they using EI transformers w/switch mode power supply for the price they charging they can design using toroidal with no problem....

Class D chip amps, usually those that have everything in a single chip, typically enjoy having regulated voltages. But to keep the overall efficiency high it can't be using a linear regulator, so SMPS it is.

Hi guys currently im using the Klipsch promedia 2.1 for music and movies etc.
Music mostly edm so will need the subwoofer.

I saw a video on youtube where the guy hooked up the edifier 1280T to a Polk Subwoofer.
Will this be a good upgrade? I dont use dedicated sound card or amp or any of that. Just plug direct to the computer lol.

How would this set up compare with the Swans M50w?

If you get R1850DB it comes with a sub out... but then if get R1850DB might as well pay a bit more for R2000DB (which has no sub out but...)

The combination you mentioned will likely sound better than an M50W. Reusing the Klipsch subwoofer is a good idea.

There's one more option - instead of buying active speakers, replace the satellites with passive speakers. I would just gamble with this.
