I thought if I upgrade I will have upgrade to a different brand for all speakers for better timber matching. That is gonna cost alot. If I do upgrade though, I will find a speaker range with better and probably bigger center speaker.

4 yrs ago after watching z review on ht center speaker, unless you have a superb center channel it is better to use 2 better L & R. it is technically economical as you can enjoy better 2 channel with the money from center channel. the only down side is you lose dialog loudness.

for HT your main drivers are front 3/2 speakers, i don't think you will have matching problems for surround unless you are a very critical listener.

my 2 cents again :s12:

lx2 for surround is overkill lol...

I see. LX2 used price is too close to lx1 new. Also I dont think my living room deserves better speakers as I have no aircon and my hdb estate has lots of noise all the time which I can hear even with door and windows closed... haha. Guess I have to move house first.

you already invested quite a bit into your HT, unless you are really moving house you can start to save up for a great front pair.

I am thinking of installing speakers on ceiling also. Do u feel it's worth it?

Unless you're into ATMOS, and you have a good collection of 4K blu-rays, reference titles to enjoy that. Some HD blu-rays have ATMOS too.
Since the launch of PS3, I have by now 600+ blu-rays.
New movies, I am getting 4K ones.
Still buying HD blu-rays because some titles are still shot in HD, so pointless buying 4K version.

My growing 4K collection:

Atmos or DSU and DTS X or Neural X is useful in giving the surround bubble a boost. So even if the title isn't Atmos equipped, it has it's advantages. Try Riddick for example, or Master and Commander, both titles benefit from the heights.

If u r going 4 atmos wif ceiling speakers, better 2 go wif 2pairs 1 pair each front n back of seat 2 enjoy the overhead moving sound like airplane flying over u. If only 1 pair u can’t really hear the motion, only there’s something over u.

your 2k budget is for receiver only
so what is your budget for speakers???

So here is what I have found so far:
WHARFEDALE WH-S8E - $193.00
WHARFEDALE CRYSTAL 4 5.0 SYSTEM (BLACK) - $678.00
Marantz SR6013 GOLD 9.2 Channel 4K Ultra HD AV Receiver $1,199.00

Total: $2,076.09
To these I may add a couple of ceiling speakers for the Atmos (5.1.2) effect - at a later date. I need to pick up a couple of used ones I won.

Opinions? Advice?

Don't doubt yourself. I haven't bought the system yet anyways, since I'm only getting keys in about a month, and no room to store the items for now.
I was considering X3600 as well, since it provides a great bang for buck (some says better than Marantz, and definitely a newer model).
I pick the Marantz since it seems to be somewhat more reliable than Denon. Yes, I know they're under the same parent company.
And that it could just be a matter of luck.
I still have a month to consider. But I think this setup should work well.
