Audition, audition audition..
I once lugged my 24kg SR 12 around to do so.
Each brand has a house sound, but each amp sounds different, so open your wallet, see how much is in it, then read a few reviews, then go down to the stores..

You reckon wrong. The space is quite small. 3 room hdb.
How low you want your sub to go down? Usually those who can achieve 16-20hz pretty big.8 inch cannot something to do with wavelength and size of the box. U know 20hz is 17m wavelength but the math to compute size of box that I donít know

I understand that I will have to compromise in regard to the sound quality and stage. But I simply do not have the room for big bulky boxes. Of course I would prefer a 10inch or a 12inch sub. It's just not practical.

Does anyone have experience with Denon X3600H? I'm wondering in regard to it's reliability.. It's priced suspiciously low in regard to a 9.2ch receiver.

Sorry forgot to add some details about how the x3600 sounds... most distinct characteristic I found was that it made my mission lx2 sound lightning fast and really snappy. Can clearly hear the mini explosion when voices pronounce Ps and Bs. Can feel more force and impact with each note. Sometimes I even find myself flinching or blinking. I guess they call this attack in speaker review lingo.

Maybe because of this speed now movie sounds and voices also sound much much clearer with better separation.

Not sure if it's worth it. Maybe better to save and upgrade fronts. Or get 2nd sub.

Any ideas which speakers to use for overhead atmos (the "2" in 5.1.2)? should I get wharfedale speakers to match the ones I already plan to get?

If you have false ceiling then, in-ceiling speakers. If not, then whatever you can safely mount on the ceiling will work. Most probably it will be light like a satellite speaker.

Gallo Micro is popular probably because of its light weight and sound quality and dainty looking.

SVS Prime Elevation. Mostly wall mounted as Front/Rear Height channel. Not sure if can be ceiling mounted as Top Front/Middle/Rear. Do find out more.

Dali Fazon / Fazon Mikro. I prefer Fazon because it should be able to crossover at lower frequency. Fazon may come with adjustable mounting bracket.

Cheaper options include Polk Audio OWM3 or OWM5. Also Polk Audio Signature S10 for better sound quality but it's bigger and heavier.

There are many options but for myself I am considering only speakers that I can crossover to subwoofer at around 100hz or 120hz at the most. So that helps narrow down the options.
