New Philips Fidelio Soundbar 7.1.2 with wireless subwoofer B97/10

Waiting for it to be released

Philips has announced two soundbars in its Fidelio range of high-end audio products.

Available from the final quarter of 2020, the Philips Fidelio B97 and B95 soundbars each come with Dolby Atmos elevation speakers for added audio height.

The Philips Fidelio B97 is the slightly better spec'ed of the two. It features a 7.1.2 speaker configuration, with a slim main unit and wireless subwoofer.

In addition, two wireless speakers can be detached from the main unit to be used as left and right surround channels. Or they can simply widen the soundscape as front-left and right channels if you wish to keep them attached.

The bar contains 17 drivers in total, with two working as up-firing 2.5-inch Dolby Atmos elevation units.

The subwoofer houses an 8-inch driver and is capable of low frequencies down to 35Hz.

The main system has a power output of 500W, while the sub is 240W.

The Philips Fidelio B95 also comes with Dolby Atmos elevation driver units, but is 5.1.2 rated instead. There are 14 drivers inside the bar in total.

It too includes a wireless subwoofer, with the main bar capable of 500W with the sub, as above, 240W.

As well as Dolby Atmos, both the B97 and B95 are IMAX Enhanced certified. They also feature twin HDMI 2.1 eARC connections plus 4K passthrough.

Bluetooth, Apple Airplay and DTS Play-Fi are on board, with the latter enabling the bars to connect to other multi-room speakers in the Philips Wireless Home System range.

They are each compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

Better specs than the JBL 9.1(5.1.4) soundbar.

I hope it comes in white color

Anyone knows whether it's here already? If not, any ETA?

With many wireless surround speakers in many soundbar package now, why the logic to have speaker detach to act as surround apart from the need of power for the rears?

I used to own 2nd series of fidelio. It was a breakthrough then with the only brand offering wireless surround as 5.1. Overtime became lazy to keep moving the speakers.
Btw white will become yellowish overtime cos of dirt and uv in the house.

FYI, the JBL 9.1 (5.1.4) surround rear speakers are battery-operated. The new Philips Fidelio B97 also comes with battery-operated surround rear speakers as well

If the soundbar has front upfiring speakers and the rear speakers have them too then the Atmos effect would be better

If you do NOT detach the speakers then you have a wider soundstage. Detaching the surround speakers will narrow your soundstage

A soundbar like the SONOS ARC is suitable for a room size of at least 16 sq m for anything smaller would make the sound overpowering

The JBL 9.1(5.1.4) is suitable for a smaller room as the Atmos height (L/M/H) can be adjusted

I do hope the new the Philips Fidelio B9 can be used in a small room of about 2.9x2.9 sq m

The JBL 9.1 has this feature

The new Philips Fidelio B97 does NOT have this in its rear speakers

Though atmos soundbar is neater but its tricky to depend on your ceiling for that bounce off effect. We do not have the luxury to try in our space unlike the uk where one can return if doesnt pan out well.
Abit of cycling back to where we started in term of atmos. We started off having soundbar without rear speakers depending only for virtual surround then. Now that we have true rear speakers but have to rely on reflected height sound for atmos.
