From my experiemce, if it’s true North, afternoon sun won’t be direct, but slight angle only. Won’t shine deep into the home.

One thing about North is it will be cooler/ windier from Oct-April. (End of year, Christmas, new year period.)

I prefer south however, as it will be windier/cooler from April-October (hot, drier months).

Autumnleaf,

South facing means windows facing south?

Depending on the layout of your unit.
We’re living in a unit facing north (living room) main door (south). We get full afternoon sun in one of bedrooms.

Now a days valuation officer uses main window in living hall to check the facing.

In the past, ancient chinese use this sit north face south to built houses. It's not because fang shui, it's to maximize the cooling effect of because not facing the sun directly and the winds for certain period very good.

I believe it does help in maintaining harmony in the home, as too stuffy and hot, people quarrels a lot.

For facing north sitting south. Balcony or main door facing north. Back of the house facing south.

Vice versa.
