No recommendations, but look out out for something like 23.1d, which may be helpful.

This particular one is from Allianz.
The above is by no means complete or representative of other travel insurance policies. The above also specifies that your journey has to start before you are eligible for claims, and you can only claim for "additional" expenses incurred as a result of those listed causes that require you to return to Singapore.

whilst the riot is beyond our control
however the key thing is the event is alrdy being made known publicily
and in spite of it, u go ahead buy ticket to go HK and then play monkey wan to cancel, dont think travel insurance can cover u for trip cancellation in tt instance.

I think most have a clause that says they won't cover it.

But if you bought during whatever promo (before it starts), you may have some chance to recover it, depending on the policy. Some expensive ones do have that...

Another but... some travel insurance states that you must not buy your travel insurance too late (as in just before the trip or buy when something has happened or knowing that something will happen).

For those who are travelling to HK soon, do check regularly for updates with the airlines as currently for today (Monday, 12 Aug) till tomorrow morning, flights to and from HK are all cancelled:

Seems like disruptions to airport operations have temporary ended for now. Need to continue to monitor before deciding if you want to go.

for the locals, they might choose to stay in the hotel ...
hotel prices are super low, just like those prices in bangkok ...

you can get 4* hotels at about $70+
metropark rosedale 70+
prudential 75 per nite
novotel nathan 88 per nite
3* hotels few of them having prices of 50+ per nite ...
