Third Cathay Pacific Group oxygen tank found emptied before take-off from Hong Kong airport
Published: 7:00am, 31 Aug, 2019

When the Airbus A330 arrived from Bali, its oxygen bottles were full
By the time it was preparing for take-off to Kuala Lumpur the next morning, one of its canisters had been discharged. Police have been called in.

A third Cathay Pacific Group plane was found with an emptied oxygen bottle on Friday, prompting the airline to call in police and the aviation authority to investigate.

The latest discovery, during pre-departure cabin checks, involved one discharged oxygen bottle on a Cathay Dragon plane. It comes after Cathay Pacific Airways&rsquo
Tuesday disclosure that it was investigating how two different Boeing 777 planes ended up carrying empty and partly empty oxygen bottles &ndash 13 in total &ndash when they arrived in Toronto from Hong Kong on August 17 and 18.

In the newest case an Airbus A330, registered B-LBI, arrived from Bali, Indonesia, and the post-arrival checks found all oxygen bottles were full. By the time it was readied to fly to Kuala Lumpur the next morning, one of the canisters had been discharged.

Cathay Dragon confirmed the bottles &ndash which crew typically use to move around the cabin in the rare event of an emergency depressurisation &ndash had been found depressurised.

&ldquo Cathay Dragon is taking the issue very seriously and has launched an internal investigation into the matter. We have also reported the matter to the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department and the police,&rdquo a company spokeswoman said.

Singaporeans should defer non-essential travel to Hong Kong while those already in the city are advised to take precautions in the wake of large-scale protests there, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Friday (Sept 6).

In a travel advisory posted on its website, MFA said that since June, the protests in Hong Kong have become increasingly unpredictable. The ministry also warned that they can take place with little or no notice, and could turn violent.

MFA cited three upcoming protests over the next few days: one at Chater Garden in Central on Friday evening; general protests on Saturday afternoon that could affect public transportation services and road access to and from Hong Kong International Airport; and another at Chater Garden in Central on Sunday afternoon that threatens to spill over to areas near the United States Consulate-General.

Given the situation, the ministry advised Singaporeans to defer travelling to Hong Kong for now, if it is not required.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) is aware that there have been calls for attempts to block traffic to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on 7 September. Passengers should pay attention to the traffic updates, and are advised to allow sufficient time to travel to the airport. Passengers can also check with their respective airlines, or at the airport’s website and “HKG My Flight” mobile app for updated flight information.

For adults with work commitment no choice then need to go Hong Kong.
For family tour then we should defer till the situation in Hong Kong is better.

FYI, you may request to cancel your trip and get 100% refund from SQ. Just call their customer service number, you will be given an email address, simply write to them and get your refund in few weeks time.
