Yuen Long is ulu? You've got to be kidding me. The center part of Yuen Long is so crowded it looks like another Mong Kok or TST. The village houses there are cheaper, bigger and friendlier to pets like dogs and cats. Even food there are slightly cheaper than Kowloon or HK island but it's more for local then for tourist. The have light rail there, KCR train and buses as transport. Yes, transportation is not as good in the city area but things are hella cheaper in Yuen Long. I was thinking of moving there if I buy a car in HK. I always go to Yuen Long just to have the popular BB Leung Fun (desert).

yea just ask if theres any free sample or goodie bag etc..most of the time have one.

in HK u cannot feel intimidated or paisey one, sure lose out. And why bother to be paisey, nobody knows u in HK and u wont be the only one that want to get most out of your buck.

in shenzhen, u see how the hong kong ppl behave and treat sales ppl, waiters... so u cannot be too "nice" or scared "shy"
Please dont be like typical China people. HKers hate the China people because of the attitude you just mentioned and stop giving advise for Singaporean to go this same route! If you really want to ask for things, do it with style and diginity. Be professional, be polite, maintain good image and style of Singaporeans in HKers' eyes!

You cannot be more wrong if you think HKers cannot differentiate between singaporean / malaysian cantonese or english accents.

well fyi its not that all the china ppl have bad attitude, its so common everywhere in shz that i come across Hkers treating the sales/service ppl like dirt. And the lady that i withnessed asking for free gifts etc is a HKer

So its normal to ask for any free gifts or discount whereby possible..of course asking depends on individual's style and attitude.

Sure not all china people, but it's in their eyes because of a few bad apples. Why I know? I lived in HK for 3 years and I travel to SZ/DongGuan 3-4 times a week for the pass 3 years. I see how HKers stand out and confronts the china people because they cut queues, I see how HKers treated the Chinese at shops because they bargain with ridiculous price..

Sure its normal to ask for gifts, I do that when I buy stuff too, just normal to ask but be professional. However your comment "And why bother to be paisey, nobody knows u in HK and u wont be the only one that want to get most out of your buck." is not advisable. Makes you sound very unprofessional.

And when you said "i come across Hkers treating the sales/service ppl like dirt.", you couldnt be more wrong. I work with HKers and China people and go out with them for entertainment occasionally and trust me, you have not seen enough how the china guys treat their sales/service people.
If you go to these places long enough, you will hear good comments "I know you are from HK, so refine... and talk with manners, not like local." (tho I'm not from HK but I do talk like them). They even commented Taiwanese can be worst but that's another story.

HKers really has pride and admirable, you see that everyday in HK because the people are more vocal and professional with their jobs. They stand up for what they believe is right, I really hope Sing is like this but quite frankly, we are not far from there YET.
