The lack of official statements leaves me in a dilemma. It is obvious that matv's signal will be better than an indoor antenna's. I am required to relocated my TV to a position that makes the matv point inaccessible without an extension coaxial cable which I probably need to trunk as well.

it will be a waste of my time and money if I were to trunk the coaxial cable only to have the matv killed off along with the analogue broadcast in 2016.

on the other hand, if I invest in an indoor antenna and matv stays. I will be stuck with a inferior signal as compared to matv.
Will this info help you better in your decision?

Quote: "Singapore will complete the switchover from analogue to digital broadcasting by 2020, in line with ASEANís agreed timeframe for making the switch."

This is not correct, i use a cheapo passive dipole antenna,
for my room TV, the signal quality strength displayed using
china receiver shows 100% for channel 8(HD) CH5- 98%
OKTO all others 97-100%.

For digital broadcast even at 10% signal quality there is no difference to one at 100% signal quality, i tested before by shifting the antenna

10% same as 100%? sure or not ?

my receiver less than 60% strength already starting to skip frames and distorted pixellation liao

My PVR Setting
  • Time Shift Auto (Auto/Pause/Off)
  • Time Shift to Record On (On/Off)
  • PS Record On (On/Off)
"PS Record" should set to OFF, turning on means u r not using Transport Stream (TS) format.

what PVR u r using? can share?

any recorder can record Transport Stream (TS) format?

TS and TP is better

As I said, it works sometimes, not always, depending on the programme. On that day at the time of testing, all HD channel could not time shift.

Just tested on DVB-T2, time shift works on all HD and SD. But DVB-T 5HD doesn't. How do you explain that?

That why I said if you have your own STB, you can confirm without relying on others.

I am using a 16G Scandisk thumb drive permanently attached. I have recorded previously a programme lasting 35min.

My PVR Setting
  • Time Shift Auto (Auto/Pause/Off)
  • Time Shift to Record On (On/Off)
  • PS Record On (On/Off)

Anyway, this is just a new toy for me. No serious use for it.

Does mediacok transmit local programs in dolby digital ?
local content shows are all mono/stereo only ahr

or u mean old movie like "die hard" broadcast once a while
type, those old movie can get dvd/bluray if you need
dolby digital.
many ppl still have very outdated info on hd broadcast.
those comments like "no hd content in asia" are only valid maybe 3 yrs ago, but not now.
now, most asian countries eg. hk, taiwan, korea, japan all produces hd progs, some with surround.
singapore is one of the last country to switch to hd.
that's why when 8(HD) started, suddenly u see more than 80% of progs are all HD.
but 8(HD) audio quality is not good mainly because most progs are mandarin-dubbed, not in original language. eg. all the hk movies should be presented in AAC5.1 (some forumers pointed out that DVB-T2 AAC is 6 channels), but because of mandarin dubbed, the audio is not as good.

as for 5(HD) or old HD5, most movies are in DD5.1 already. the old HD5 animated logo will show "HD presentation 5.1 surround" during the movie.
for dvb-t2 5(HD) the DD+ audio stream is all day, for surround and non-surround. progs.
so getting a surround stb got nothing wrong.

draco stb recording is in TS format by default.
i.e. wat u recv OTA is wat u record.

i would prefer able to watch hk show in original sound. something like starhub watch live tv channel in mandarin dubbed, go to on-demand/play to catch-up in original sound+hd.

Sorry I don't get you.

For my Draco, if I use the dedicated "Record" button, recordings are always in TS format, no other choices. There is a message to say "H264 supports TS format only" at the start of a recording.

When a time shift recording is being played, the "subtitle" and "audio" buttons allow me to have corresponding selections. This implies that the recording is in TS format? This applies regardless of whether "PS Record" is set to "On" or "Off".

MDA does not allow dialect programs on free to air chs. Only some opera programs. For Starhub and Mio TV, only 1 dialect TV channel is allowed. Their outdated rules since not much people objected it.

UHF29 - 538MHz
Suria (HD) - live
Channel 5 (HD) - live
