HDTV Tuner Setup and Reception Issues

HDTV reception locally is still a hit and miss. LOCATION is the main determinant of good reception. Even in the same block, the quality can vary.
This discussion is about the types of antennae, how to get HDTV and improve reception.

If you can plug your computer to the tv, you can buy a pcie or usb digital tv card. <$100

Or you can get that Draco HD set up box $300+ plug direct to tv

Or you can buy that Samsung M8 series HDTV with Integrated digital tv receiver

or get singtel miotv to receive hd5.

yes those dvb-t tuner is just a hardware receiver, you'll need s/w to decode hd5 data stream which is encoded using mpeg4 avc.

My Samsung IDTV cannot receive HD5 and I live in SengKang. I guess is the area also determines the ability to get the signals?

sengkang should be able to receive digital tv broadcast from rooftop antenna. is the tv connected to rooftop antenna or routed to SCV's infrastructure?

i am connecting via the SCV points directly. I guess my place is routed thru Starhub as the person who delivered my tv ask me to get my management to switch to "MA TV" antenna signals.

that's the reason why you cant receive digital channels (and hd5). you need to be routed to rooftop to receive digital channels.

like my example, one point (bedroom) is routed to scv, one port (living room) is routed to rooftop - thus I can receive digital channels in living room.
