Optoma P1 replacing Pana 50" plasma

Upgrading my theatre room
Finally decided to take the plunge to replace my 50Ē plasma with a projector.
As i normally watch video content during evening/night, I decided to get a projector.
Did extensive research and decided to get the UST pj Optoma P1.
Got it from the local distributor, 3 years warranty.
Delivery date will be tomorrow Fri.

Tools from Optoma for estimation of screen size
I converted 1 of my bedroom into a theatre room since i got my house.
With the tool, u can fill up the size of your room, screen size and TV console height.
Then you will be able to see a good estimation of the screen coverage.

The Optoma tool link is below
https://www.optoma.com/projectioncal...on=ROA&name=P1

Importance of the height of the UST PJ placement
There is still 1 important factor to consider, which is the height of the platform where the PJ will be placed.
With the Optoma tool link above, you can touch and drag the PJ to reflect the height of your console. You will see how the screenís height will move up or down.
My TV console height is 50cm.
As i have a Center speaker, I will be fabricating a stand to ďcoverĒ the centre speaker.
The PJ will sit on this stand.
Fabrication of the stand is around $46. Double sided black PVC.
Company where i got the stand fabricated.https://www.plywood.com.sg

Ongoing improvement project
After dismantling my plasma, need to patch the damage and repaint it.
Tried my best to touch up first as I am planning my Reno at the end of the year & will be requesting the contractor to make a very flat wall....(Hopefully they are capable to do that).
Iíll try without the ALR screen for now as I like a minimalistic look & the ALR screen just makes it look like a TV.

My current wall Color is sort of light brown.
When the Wuhan virus lockdown is over, planning to buy grey paint and test out if thereís any difference.
The final plan is to buy the special paint from Goocentral to paint the wall after my Reno.

Fantastic, very nice.
How much did the PJ cost?
Why this instead of the Xiaomi?
It uses the same chip to get a pseudo 4k image

After gst $5699.
I did consider the wemax a300. Went to the sound n vision show at Concorde hotel(used to be meridian Orchard)
I brought some 4k movies and requested to test out.
Played the same movie on a300 and chiq(the 2nd highest end model of chiq)
Can see the chiq model has a Much better color vibrancy and black level. But it cost $5k plus. Chiq circular shape design is huge.

Then I read about ust pj grading for Xiaomi and wemax.
Wemax is like the better grade of Xiaomi. And also there’s a fengmi.
I’ve did lots of searching online. I find 2 brightness spec of wemax a300 online. For pj, the brightness level is important. With this ambiguity, plus video testing, I wasn’t sure to take the plunge for wemax.
Sometimes paper specs can be misleading.

Ironically, I didn’t manage to test the optoma p1.
Read the AMDKs’ reviews online n youtube videos to make the decision.
Since it’s going to be a Long term investment, I decided to get the P1.
Hope the P1 dun disappoint me....

And also read about True 4k &native 4k.
True 4k are actually pixel shifting like optoma using the dlp chip.
Jvc and Sony has native 4k but the price jump is astonishing.

What is the screen size gonna b? I had used pj on white wall n will easily shows wall blemishes even though the wall looks ok 2 me so end up I gotten a pull down screen which improves the pq. Frankly if u already invested on the pj might as well go 4 the ALR screen so tat it can show itís true potential.

It will be 100Ē. Thatís the max i can go for my room.

Thanks for sharing your experience of using the wall as screen.
Is the blemishes caused by the different tones of the wall due to humidity?
Have you tried painting your wall again?
My final try for wall paint will be that reflective paint from Goocentral.
If really no choice then I will go for the ALR screen.
What brand of the ALR did you get and which company you got from?
Thanks.

PJ arrived.
Nicely packed.
The tampered proof seal looks assuring.

Comes with ALR screen guide & high speed HDMI cable.

@moron+genius, damn, u are absolutely right. I thought my wall is flat...
Looks like need to ask the Reno contractor if really possible to make a flat surface.

Things didn’t go as planned. The stand was not well made. Managed to get a refund.

There’re gaps....

No choice shift the centre speaker to accommodate the PJ.

With 4 Downlights on

All lights off

Personally I wonít bother asking and Just use the $ n get the screen but itís really up 2 u. Also Watch out centre spk will cause the projected picture to shake if itís below the pj n played loud enough... spk may need isolation.
