Went down to SIS to change today.
Yep.
No more dead pixels I got a perfect set.
Staff there are really friendly.
Served even though it's already over their service hours.

Please remember to reset your phone to factory settings before exchanging for a new set.
Also remember to remove the SD card.

screenful stars at black max-brightness. greenish ones. consider them dps?

They are stuck pixels.
Anyway, just exchanged my hero for a new set. So far screen is ok, no pixel issues. The reception seems a bit better then my previous set.
Good for you. Time to get a screen protector for the real set

here's how

I learn this from a taiwan website...

htc hero serial number: S/N: SS-Y-WW-PP-ZZZZZ

ss = SZ 深圳 HT 新竹 SH 上海 CH 武漢
y = year. if "9" means "2009"
ww = week. first w is month "123456789ABC" represents jan-dec accordingly.
2nd w is day 1-9-A-Z('IOQU' is not used) represents 1-9-10-31.

oh Yes I forgot to mention.
Not all sets are perfect.
