care to share how you manage your connections. In terms of speed and range which one is the best suitable 2.4ghz and 5ghz

try to turn off your smart connect first. the default mechanism set for the algorithm might not be suitable for your devices.

you need to first find out why the connection was dropped. was it because of poor coverage or technical issue on the router. technical issue on the router will reflect on the log of the router.

Using firmware 380.59

My fiend and I are still using 380.59, and we refuse to update as it is rock solid with great coverage. We have used this 380.59 version since merlins release, If you have trouble with it , try to use the recovery disk and reload the firmware, if you updated you MAY not be able to downgrade.

Reset to factory defaults and test again, if problems still, you may want to try to replace the router with another 5300.
Cheers!!

This is almost the same price as the AC88U on Lazada now... is there any reason to consider the AC88U over this one?

renfred89 03-11-2016 08:49 AM

both are different models with different usage intention. what are you trying to achieve out of the product, you might wanna ask yourself..

briefly, ac5300 got 3 radios and ac88u only got 2. ac88u got 8 lan ports while ac5300 only got 4. ac5300 is way bigger than ac88u, have you considered this as well?

I will prefer ac5300 over ac88u because of the types of wireless devices I have. despite being an advanced user, I still prefer to assign my devices into their respective bands while ac88u will not be so appropriate..

perhaps you can find out what you really need so that some of us can give you some opinions?

lazada might offer you export items without local warranty, it's best to confirm with the seller..

Thanks for the reply. I think the price was a Lazada special sale... it's now back up to $$400+.

My usage is some light gaming, light torrenting, streaming Netflix and videos from my NAS. My home is less than 1,000 sq. ft. and my devices are as follows:

Ethernet connections - 2 PCs, 1 QNAP NAS, 1 PS4
Wireless connections - 1 Samsung S7 Edge, 1 iPhone SE, 1 iPad Air 2, 1 LG OLED TV, one old iPad and MacBook Air (rarely used)

I think the AC5300 might be overkill for me, so now I'm looking at either the AC88U or just save money and get the AC68U.

there might be. i spotted at least 3 different classes of wifi devices you have from above. with ac5300, and appropriate settings, smart connect can easily assignment and group the devices into their similar speed class, so you won't have the slower devices dragging down the faster ones.

but do note that don't expect ac5300 to perform very differently from your current n56u. speed performance changes will only be noticeable if there is concurrently heavy traffic amongst devices, and some users might not see the differences because they don't heavily rely on wifi.

Can I ask how do I check my devices wifi class?

assuming you allocated the best settings for your router, then the speed limitation will be on your device.

depending on your device limitation, some may only connect to 2.4Ghz.

Assuming you are connected to 2.4Ghz on 40Mhz bandwidth, and is using the wireless N, then 1x1 is 72mbps, 2x2 is 144mbps.

Wireless ac is 1x1 433mbps, 2x2 866mbps, 3x3 1300mbps.

the above are PHY rates. so you check your own device and you will know..

hi experts here. I needed help. I have been using this ac5300 for past 1 month, no issues.

Suddenly today upon reaching home, i cant connect to 2.4ghz. devices still can scan and detect 2.4ghz. but when try to connect, it cannot.

thund3r 22-11-2016 12:56 AM

i have tried reset, in fact multiple times.

The router should have come with a disk, try the recovery disk program and your preferred firmware version, put the router in recovery mode to use it.
if that does not work then it seems like a bad router. (exchange it)
Cheers!!
