[Maylyn - Networking] ASUS ZenWiFi XT8

ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 has landed

Do note that it's not up for retail market as yet and please wait for ASUS SG to make the official announcement (availability and pricing) in due time.

Official ASUS SG landing page

@ ~> https://www.asus.com/sg/Networking/ZenWiFi-AX-XT8/

Do bear in mind, I will have to take some time to setup, bench and test so will take a while to update my findings.

So stay tuned.

Some updates. - 18/01/2020

Sorry for the delay,

I have to reserve my experiences (in detail) and performance metrics for the time being due to NDA and some internal intensive firmware updates to resolve bugs, performance fixes, improve interoperability and compatibility etc etc.

One word is that I feel is that ease of better coverage and connectivity I supposed over ASUS Lyra and ASUS Lyra Trio?

Here are some of the GUI which I'm allow to reveal publicly, so continue to stay tuned

Updates - 20/01/2010

I have revert to standalone setup the ASUS ZenWiFi XT8 citing some technical discoveries which i have already feedback to ASUS TW HQ Networking for their information and attention.

So far, I'm impressed with what it has to offer to date ..... Wi-Fi Agile Multiband and Time on Target features is available and 4 cores QCA CPU power to harness

I’m also waiting to have the same setup as shown by your pics.
One ax89x as the main router connected to the ONT.
A pair of XT8 spread around the house using AiMesh.
I’m quite confused by the ethernet hardwiring photo that illustrates the node and router setup for the xt8.
Can you provide a clearer hardwire illustration on the ports being used for both devices in order to achieve the optimal mesh network below?

ONT -> AX89X (Main Router) -> XT8 (Mesh) -> XT8 (Mesh)

Can’t wait to get my hands on these devices!

For me, it means ZenWiFi AC (CT8) will offer a faster performance than a dual-band mesh WiFi as the backhaul traffic is not shared with the fronthaul network. The fronthaul network support a maximum link speed up to 867Mbps on 5Ghz.

I'm using Asus AC88U (wifi disabled) at the moment with 3x Velop (inside DB , living room and MBR)

am thinking to replace all the velop with XT8. one in MBR, one in living room. and AC88U wifi will still be disabled. Both will be connected with LAN as backhaul.

Does the AiMESH works with 2 units on ethernet backhaul while a 3rd unit further away uses wireless backhaul?

For SingTel Fibre VLan, since port 4 is for MIOTV, this will not support? All 3 Lan ports will be for internet?

Thanks.

The 3rd unit will probably take it's wifi signal from either of the wired Aimesh units depending which is nearer.

So it will work with both ethernet and wireless backhaul at the same time right?

That would be good news for me. Thanks.
