Hi Gents!

My family just got a RT-AC87U router but still isn't very satisfied with it's range. We placed the router in the living room and you can only receive a good full bar if you're near the door of the bedroom, however, once you walk in a few more steps, the connection drops to 1 bar or none.

Mean time, only solution is to use our old setups of powerline adapters, but those only bottleneck the speed as we only have 500mbps versions of those.

We are thinking of using our old RT-N65U as a repeater/bridge. Anyone knows if it's possible and how may we go about doing it?

Cheers!

its a directional antenna instead of an omni-directional one.. therefore a bit not useful if you r planning to use it as an omni-directional coverage..

I finally got the Asus RT-AC87U Sitex and with a good price. It's sleek and blend in my TV console.

My firmware is 3.0.0.4.376_2769. Here are some of my feedback and queries.

1) I have used that black network cable (comes with box) to connect from RT-AC87U WAN port to ONT. Is this black network cable cat6?

2) Formerly, Aztech download speed is 156.13Mbps and upload speed is 160.55Mbps. Now, Asus download speed is 47.65Mbps and upload speed 55.99Mbs. What has went wrong now?

Need advice how to maximum my Asus performance?

Still cheaper than the one I bought locally last year from seller in VR-Zone Forum for $40 (per piece).

What's the better firmware out currently? I bought mine in September IT show, only just unboxed. The 2.4ghz performance, just 1 wall away, has full bar but performance is subpar. Feels weird, like latency, the webpages have to wait a little before connecting and loading.

I am also experiencing disconnect in 5G. Any advice what to do?

Speed is much slower.. Any advice what to do?

It seems that the performance is subpar compared to Aztech 7003. I am sure Asus can be better...

On Starhub 200Mbps plan, no problem with the AC87U. This is a very solid router. Prior to that, I was using N66U, now I bridged it to AC87U.

On Merlin's latest firmware Asuswrt-Merlin 376.48 is out - SmallNetBuilder Forums

While I'm performing these speedtest on the PC, iPad Air & iPhone 6 Plus, my family were streaming movies on the Samsung SmartTV and iPad Mini concurrently.

Windows 8.1 PC via Cat6 Cable

iPhone 6 Plus via 5Ghz

iPhone 6 Plus via 2.4Ghz

iPad Air via 5Ghz

iPad Air via 2.4Ghz

I was in the common toilet. Using 5G connection, the webpage shows invalid page at EDMW... Then I switched to 2.4G is ok.

Let me monitor these few days.

Huh? I am buying one from Amazon for USD22. Putting it together with a few other items to qualify for free shipping.
