Tried aws no go. Netflix blocked the whole range of ips from aws. I believe it's the same for most cloud providers.

Though to be fair I tried this back in 2017 when Netflix was really aggressive with this VPN crap.

Feel free to try your luck though as things might have changed now.

I gave up which is why I went for ivacy. At least I can VPN in and watch Netflix on the go.
I know it can be done since a few Chinese YouTuber are showing how they build the VPS and SSR thingy to bypass the China Firewall and watch Netflix 4K on their PS 4 Pro, Apple TV 4K and NVidia Shield TV or other boxes. I see their link speed is >100Mbps to US Netflix servers.

Edit: add one ref
Ref: 215.82Mbps in the following video in Netflix App network speed check. And he is showing Netflix 4K for both Apple TV 4K and Nvidia Shield TV.
https://youtu.be/tqpaPx02hyY

Again this is a cat and mouse game as Netflix starts to block IP address ranges from various cloud VPS vendors and SS providers.

++++++++++++++++
Ref in Chinese:
https://digitalimmigrant.org/16

In the above review, it mentions a few methods.

1) VPN
It says that Express VPN (LA 03) is stable but slow, so not easy to have HD/4K.

2) Shadowsocks provider

3) Build your own Shadowsocks server
It mentions that VPS providers like
Linode,Vultr,Digitalocean, Bandwagon are already blocked by Netflix. And it is complicated.

4) The author does not recommend DNS based methods like the following.
Getflix,SmatDNSProxy ,Proxmate

So the author in the end is more inclined to SS providers for bypass China Firewall and watch Netflix at the same time.

One provider:
http://www.myharbour.website
US$69 per year including one Netflix account . 3days trial with 5GB data
+++++++++

Disclaimer: I do not know how to do and do not need Netflix myself but I tend to believe SS providers should work for Singapore as well.

Maybe the best option is to have a friend in another country you want to watch you videos host s VPN server on his own network that you can connect to

one of the many reason pple would rather pirate than go thru all these ****.
they wanna throw money at the providers.. but.. the providers dun want the money.. lol
I think Netflix wants to provide more content to Singapore Netflix if more customers are subscribing to it and then it can pay content providers. Chicken and egg thingy.

I am not so sure how many in Singapore will want to pay for more Netflix content if the price is they double the monthly subscription price : roughly current price plus VPN provider price.

I guess more people are interested in Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Malay/Indian/Singlish entertainment in Singapore as there are so many people buying those Android TV boxes with dubious apps.

TVB Anywhere is one example, they do not have live TV in Sinagpore, if they do, I think there will be quite some subscribers as it will beat StarHub offerings and provide better quality and ease of use than those Android TV boxes with dubious apps.

Haha you need a pretty good friend and yet IT savvy to achieve this goal, not easy...

I have a friend in Australia who is probably savvy enough to configure a VPN server. However his internet has a bandwidth cap at 200GB a month and upload speed about 0.5Mbps...

Unless you wanna watch Australia Netflix, you need a friend in US to give you a US ip address.

I don't really use netflix. Last time my friend had viewquest broadband with freedom DNS I had my router selectively redirect BBC iPlayer traffic to his internet.

Now I just downloaded videos and movies to my Plex server and share it with some friends

Some things you have to torrent. For me I download animes to my media server to watch as well. Dramas, well I'm lazy so Netflix is good enough.

Also I subscribed using Brazil's Netflix so I'm paying in Brazilian real. It's about 10sgd per month for the 1080p package which isn't too bad for dramas imo

I have tested China Tunnel in rooted Android TV box and it works well with Tencent Video 腾讯视频 and it is free. I even got three days free VIP and tested the VIP features like HD quality movie and it worked too — watched one full length movie in 1080p. You can get it from Dangbei market but it requires root.

For non-rooted Android and iPhone, I have tested using the free trial of two China Specfic VPNs Transocks 穿梭 and SpeedIn 快帆 and both of them seem to work. I only tested for short time though and do not pay for them since I am more interested in live TV for China.

China government Great Firewall is geared to prevent people coming out so it is easier to go into China than coming outside as the geoblocking restrictions are mainly from the vendors. So I believe other VPNs may work as well but I have not tested them and the two VPN I mentioned seem to be more specific to the needs you want.

If you are going to stay in China for some time, then you may want to look at some major VPN vendors to bypass the Great Firewall.

ExpressVPN
vrptvpn
purevpn
NordVPN

https://digitalimmigrant.org/category/video
Those Chinese YouTubers seem to use Shadow Socket providers or own SS server on the VPS.

For my short one week visit to Shanghai last year, I use my company computer with company VPN to access Gmail/YouTube without problems. Facebook was not there though as my company IT blocked Facebook as well.

Edit: some VPN examples for foreigners living in China

1) Using VPNs in China by an Australian, Aug 2017
https://youtu.be/wri_-VRCqHU
She is using Astrill for long term stay but she also recommended some other VPNs for short term stay

2) How to use a VPN in China, sponsored by Hotspot Shield, June 2018
https://youtu.be/tPUKaiKmTOI

3) Using foreign SIM card without the need to use VPN
https://youtu.be/uqWj-iij5Ms

This is probably the easiest way to go for a short trip, either use dat roaming on postpaid plan or prepaid card

4) latest Nov 2018 video, nice video even though it is sponsored by NordVPN
https://youtu.be/NpzIlm1l-FM

Updated: it says VPNs are increasingly blocked in China

Has anyone tested it on those videos which always say can play only for mainland China on Baidu?

I am using PC and a firefox browser to watch Tencent Video. Tried purevpn but they don't have china server so can't watch the movie catered only for people in China.

I looking for other alternatives which don't cost more than SGD5 per month.

Any suggestion?
