You should host your own VPN at home to use while in china.
I will consider this next time— will experiment with OpenVPN server on the Linksys router first and probably also my Raspberry Pi 3B+.

Anyone on NordVPN? The speed seems to be sub-par compared to Astrill....
Me. Never used astrill. But it seems slower than Expressvpn... still comtemplating whether to keep subscription 🤔 I might since it seems to be the most value for money with the cyber month discount.

Just installed 1.1.1.1 DNS app on my iPhone 6S and notice it is actually implemented as a local VPN, not so sure why it needs to do that.

Edit: it is the same for their Android app as well. Tried on Mi Max 1.

Did i miss out someone mention gaming on vpn?
https://www.avg.com/en/signal/mythbu...eally-need-one

Seems not very useful for gaming even though ExpressVPN and other VPNs have some claim about improvement on gaming experiences.

Then there are things like wtfast GPN (not VPN) some also say is not really useful.

You can just change in iOS settings.

I am just curious why the 1.1.1.1 app uses local VPN on both iOS and Android.

Maybe for encrypting DNS queries?

Cloudfare DNS supports DNS over Https (DoH) and DNSSEC
https://developers.cloudflare.com/1....ns-over-https/

Which can only be implemented if u run a local DNS server.

Pi-hole is a good way to do just that
https://pi-hole.net

Coupled with a local hosted VPN server, you can get the same benefits that this app provides but with more features like ads and tracker blocking on the DNS level.

if you are more paranoid you can even set up a recursive DNS server with Pi-hole

I think not really that useful, similar to Google DNS but probably with slightly better privacy. This is not a VPN.
