Hi all,
New to the forum and discussion, I have read through the previous replies.
Basically I am looking for a VPN provider that can give me good enough speed and ping from SG -> China same as China -> SG. (mostly for gaming purpose)
I am currently renting a VPS that cost USD 10 per month, wish to cut cost and finding alternative.
Thank you.

I believe the answer is none if you need the round trip ping to be below 100ms. But you can try those not-so-well-known Chinese apps to see if they work for you or not.

For example you can try free 爱加速 and SpeedCN first. Both claim to reduce ping for mobile gaming.

For alternative VPS, you may want to ask here.

SpeedCN, macOS app in development

The 2017 post suggested to use N2Ping for gaming which is expensive at US$130 per year.

Sorry I do not really use Windows at home.

You may want to give SpeedCN a try.

For Mi Box S (Android TV OS), they have Transocks TV version and SpeedCN for TV version available on the Play Store of Mi Box S . But both have no free option.

I sideload Transocks mobile phone version and 爱加速, both are okay with playing 720p 庆余年 under Tencent Video.

Non paying member can get up to 1080p now but quite a bit of buffering is required for 1080p. Previously non paying member could only get up to 720p. Of course you have to withstand the minute long ads for every episode.

Paying member can get rid of the ads and can stream up to 4k resolution, but then the free VPNs does not seem to be good at 1080p, let alone 4k. So you may also need to pay for Transocks or probably SpeedCN or SpeedIn.

tat due to VPN

on ss.. even 网易音乐vip
its free lah

I tried one SS Japanese server and it still failed.

I will probably try a few other free SS severs to see if really SS is effective or not to unblock abema.tv.

It is said that data centre IP addresses will be blocked whereas residential IP address will work. In that case, SS will not help.

For SingTel TV Go and Toggle, I tried V2Ray and SS severs in China and none of them works. Probably it is the same, data centre IP addresses are blocked. So the solution is probably setting up a VPN server at home.

They are talking about abema.tv, a Japanese streaming service, where Windscribe and Surfsharks do not work based on the tests using mobile phone.

Ref: abema.tv blocked many VPN.

it's the rules u need to set

e.g abeme using surge add..to url rewrite

^https?://api.abema.io/vd/ip/check - reject
https?://api.abema.io/v\d/ip/check - reject

most SG site i use GEOIP rules to bypass
except some tats using cloudflare CDN stuffs.

vpn are for newbies. ON/OFF type of users
tats why they are paying more

Haha, not an expert on these SS/V2Ray stuff. But since I have signed up for the Google Cloud free account, now I can start to deploy my own servers and also learn on more advanced stuff.

My simple V2Ray SG server (default install) on Google Cloud VPS performed way better than the paid PureVPN during my China trip to bypass China GFW.

I run the SS server on a US west LA location so it was not good in China (lower speed).

Not so sure if there are cheap Aliyun or other cloud VPS server inside China for me to play with.

1) Aliyun is not cheap
2) China bandwith is at least 10x international rate.
3) cheap China bandwith = lousy speed and latency
4) you can not surf facebook if vps is hosted in China unless you relay the connection out.
5) try Hongkong server
