please dun tell me your purchased your vpn using CC.

h ttp://bitcoinsimplified.org/learn-more/anonymity/
Actually at the time of registration with Astrill, we MUST provide our mobile number (so that they will send an activation code). This mobile phone cannot be edited to a fake number later, as it is locked to your account.

That means the activities can be traced to you through the telcom if necessary. Sort of defeat the purpose of vpn for some people.

Anyway Astrill seems to be a favorite here and I myself is using it without too many issues. I wish Astrill can take privacy more seriously.

It's probably good enough. They don't keep logs.

how do i do port forwarding?

let's say my t0rr3nt application's port is 12345, and my router had setup the same port 12345 for port forwarding. do i just key in 12345 in the setup of PIA or Astrill's PC client?
No need port forward in your router, the VPN goes straight through.

You enable port forwarding in the PIA advanced settings, then disconnect and reconnect. Mouse over the PIA icon and it will give you the port number beside the IP address. Use this port number in your torrnt client.

See https://www.privateinternetaccess.co...lient-support/ under Port Forwarding.

i did the speed test on PIA and Astrill.

Astrill is just much faster in terms of US server.

i have some problem with t0rr3nts downloading witb Astrill. Does t0rr3nt download work with those Astrills' server that come with an asterisk?

Are all PIA servers t0rr3nt friendlyt?
Yes, torrenting only works with those Astrill servers (lots of them) with *.

That's pretty extreme, 500kb/s even with lousy torrents is achievable for HK in my case. Have you tried the port forwarding in the PIA client?
My torrent on PIA can go up to 28MB/s which is about the speed cap for my 200mbps plan, you guys aren't doing something right.

not necessary. the listed countries code are china and uae only. i provided my mobile no. during the chat with the cso. and when the verification code was sent to me, the verification code was incorrect. the cso asked for the code and get my acc verified at the back end.

i think it is still safe as they do not keep any log. they have no log record to pinpoint that what website or files you had downloaded. your mobile phone just show that you are a use with Astrill, that's all. that's just my opinion though.

can you share what you do? i would like to subscribe to the 1 year PIA plan, but the speed test isn't convincing me.

Just letting u guys know, vpn proclaim they don't keep logs but in the actual fact, they must and will keep logs privately for themselves in order to protect themselves against abusers.

That why some people prefer btc payment and simple anonymous sign up.

can you share what is bt streaming speed like? or bt downloading.

i think a HD 1080p movie would stream fine at 2MBps, though sometimes i see my xbmct0rr3n+ on kodi runs at between 4 to 10 MBps.
Just did a test during peak hours on some of Astrill torrenting servers (those with * beside it), I didn't test all of it, too tiring

My broadband speed = 200Mbps
Filesize = 1.08GB

Torrenting without VPN
via ISP = 24MB/s (or 192Mbps)

Torrenting with VPN
USA Seattle = 15MB/s (120Mbps)

USA Phoenix 2 = 15MB/s (120Mbps)

USA San Francisco = 15MB/s (120Mbps)

USA Salt Lake City = 14MB/s (112Mbps)

USA Dallas 1 = 12MB/s (96Mbps)

USA Portland = 12MB/s (96Mbps)

Australia 2 = 12MB/s (96Mbps)

Australia 1 = 10MB/s (80Mbps)

USA Fremont = 8MB/s (64Mbps)

USA Miami = 7MB/s (56Mbps)

USA China Optimized 2 = 6MB/s (48Mbps)

USA Las Vagas = 5MB/s (40Mbps)

USA Los Angeles 1 = 4MB/s (32Mbps)

USA Los Angeles 2 = 2MB/s (16Mbps)

USA China Optimized 1 = 2MB/s (16Mbps)

Canada 1 = 2MB/s (16Mbps)

that is really informative!

thank for the effort!

i guess you had just convinced more users to subscribe to Astrill, at least for me.

I think so too. At the moment, Astrill provides me with better speeds than a few others, but if another service can match Astrill in speed and provides anonymous sign up, I'll jump ship.

Just select a port forwarding server and input the port assigned to you in your torrent app. Nothing special. Check their support page to see which gateways support torrenting.
