As expected, Starhub wants to charge me for "early termination" (since I'm technically under contract) when the official cut-off date was 30 June, later extended during a last minute announcement.
Talked to the manager (poor CSO looked helpless) and explained the situation. I actually approached Starhub a few times regarding migration to their Fibre plan, but they can't offer a suitable solution (wireless/EoCC), so didn't take up the offer and was told by CSO to just return the equipment by 30 June, 3 times by different CSO.
Since no solution in sight, and deadline approaching, I signed up with Singtel (extremely satisfied with the Mesh solution now). Few days later, Starhub announced the extension.
Manager said there is nothing she can do
And I argued that it was all over the media that the cut-off date was 30 June, and the extension was done last minute... what if they keep extending when the deadline approaches.. Wouldn't people be stuck in limbo?
I wanted to return the TV boxes, and they tell me they can't take back the boxes unless it's termination and I have to pay early-termination charges. In the end I chose to terminate, otherwise I'll be paying for the box rental and TV program charges for nothing moving forward. Luckily my contract actually ending soon, so the termination charge is small change (will see if that's true when bill comes).
So those still on contract, beware. Most likely you'll have to wait till cut-off date, make sure cable service really cut off and no more extension, before you actually sign up for other alternative services.
Will never go to Starhub for future services for such underhandedness.
ps: edited the post many times as I kept getting 403 Forbidden error... turns out that post cannot contain the money-symbol -_-
since you not gonna go back to starhub, use your points to offset the penalties. unless there's something you want.
