The Starhub ONT for fibre broadband use is for various purposes.
Usually ONT Port-1 is active for internet access.
Should subscriber do include Starhub TV service, then the ONT Port-2 will be activate for IPTV connection to access on a separate IP Address.
ONT Port-3 & Port-4 will be null &or void.

Each ISP will issue its own ONT or ONR for its own access to their network for both internet and tv, if applicable.

I'm re-contracting my Homehub and will be 'upgraded' to Fibre TV to replace my 2 cable TV boxes (Living Room and Parents Bedroom). Trunking to the bedroom is free according to the Sales Rep.

Sale Rep told me how the 2 Fibre TV box will be connected, he said that the the TV boxes will be connected from my router then I was oh okay. But then just recently I saw a illustration from the Starhub website that it is suppose to be connected from port 2 of the modem then split using some switch then to the TV boxes and I now very blur.

Did the Sales Rep kelong? If yes then need to call to confirm or no need to panic?

Starhub IPTV Set top box (STB) cannot be connected via router, period.

But for Singtel Mio should not be an issue, hence the sales rep may be new and not familiar with Starhub IPTV which differ from Singtel Mio.

For 2 IPTV STB you need to have a Switch as indicated in the illustration.
Not sure if they include this switch or not, hence you may have to ask another sales rep on this issue and on this inquiry about router/iptv.

Do note that 1 ethernet cabling cannot be shared between router/internet and iptv.

Anyone using TL-PA7020P KIT and works for SH Fibre tv?
Sent off the SH cos RJ11 wires not suitable to convert to RJ45.
If lay trucking, need to pay $107 (was told it was free) and its ugly.

I know someone said Singtel leased coaxial cable system to Starhub, but is that true?

I guess it is more of the access to manhole and cable access infrastructure into buildings. How many still recall Starhib digging the roads in the 90s to lay the cables? As far as I remember, there were some disputes with singtel over the manhole access, which the gov stepped in.

Singtel being the incumbent would have many underground tunnels and manholes housing these telecommunications cables.

If Singtel were to own the cooxial infrastructure as well, they would have competed directly with Starhub on cable, rather than going it's own via telephone lines. How many recall how unstable ADSL connection was back then?

You need to buy a managed switch. Those cheap switches for home use will not work.

Okay Starhub people arrived to do cabling the datapoint and TV box replacement. They do provide the switch to connect the two IPTVs in living room and bedroom.

Actually so much hassle. Quite likely SG become the place where we buy fancy and expensive tv but don’t have content. Imagine they bill u for the drilling, trunking. Still need to pay for loan set and content. Hopefully Apple/ Android TV can disrupt!

There are already Apple/Android Boxes all over the market. However, how "legal" are they puzzled me. One of the Android Box vendor told me simply need to subscribed to IPTV.apk that is able to receive all Starhub channels costing only $150 for 3 years.

I see my Starhub Bills indicating Starhub will ceased Free-to-Air Cable Channels by end 2018. I supposed the paid Cable should still run at least for another year?

Free to air is Mediacorp channels only. Paid channels you may be right to say at least another year.

Why can't Starhub just come up with a app version of Starhub TV?

Not talking about Starhub Go which we have to pay extra in addition to a fibre tv subscription. It needs to come with a fibre tv subscription. Also, the Starhub GO app doesn't work well on non tablet and phones. Hard to watch on TV.

What I mean is a app version for android or IOS devices without the need to subscribe to Fibre TV or the need for any set top box. Something we can play on TV.

We just pay for a subscription to Starhub TV through a apk without the need for a set top box. Using MAC ID for recognising the device.

Fibre TV is so troublesome. We have to set up a data point, connect the set top box to it, to a switch if using multiple boxes, then connect with or without the switch depending on the number of boxes to the ONT on the other side etc.

Imagine all the hacking, to install the data points. Also ruining existing partitions/structure to install those ugly looking cable/cable cover

Worse thing is we are also tied to Starhub's Fibre Broadband.

My cable tv subscription is expiring. With the imminent compulsory termination of cable tv, and being forced to switch to Fibre TV, I am going to terminate my Starhub TV because of all the inconveniences above.

With all the competitors like netflix, hooq, why can't Starhub just innovate and keep their subscribers instead of driving them away because of all the inconveniences?

Starhub GO is for mobile phone, Tab and Computer. You can subscribe to some plan just Starhub GO alone but the channels available is limited. They do not allow app to be install on smart Tv because they want user to subscribe to extra set top box and to duplicate the channels to the extra boxes then they can have extra income. They are smart, you want to watch their channels, you have to bundle it with your internet. Fibre is clear and picture is much better compared to cable Tv. Set up is done nicely for you and you just use the service as usual. Nothing troublesome at all. Soon Starhub will have a better app for Starhub GO. As a service provider, it also want to have control over their Tv contents for its benefit. In business everything is about getting profit for the company. They make sense.
