I have a Xiaomi Router 3 Pro which is having some weird issues lately.

Wifi signal are great however out of nothing internet connection would be lost. The following troubleshooting steps has since be performed.

- cables are in good condition
- devices are still connected via wifi however no internet connection
- since stock firmware is having this issue, I have since flashed it to OpenWRT

- ONT has no issues as it is working fine with another router with no downtime

- set it as a repeater, also same thing out of nothing internet connection would be lost. Wifi or cable same

set channel to manual and select a channel with less interference.

you can use your handphone with wifi analyser app to find out what is the best channel.

It is using both channels that no other routers are using at my place.

unless you stay in jungle or very big bungalow with big garden, your neighbour will interfer your wifi.

go to your router setting and set to channel to manual - if still don't work, then ask again.

Used a build in tool in OSX to scan for the best signal.
changed it to manual channel 1 - 2.4GHZ and 165 - 5GHZ

My old time capsule from Apple is not dropping connection at all.

Additionally I noticed. Clients on wired connection also unable to access internet after some random time.

Only the main router should enable DHCP, the rest must either disable or switch to access point mode

you should disable the dhcp server on the 2nd router.

There is only 1 router in the entire setup at once.
Somehow out of nothing be it with Xiaomi firmware or OPENWRT.

On random hours all the connected machines will lose its IP. Wired wireless all same. Sometimes it’s an hour sometimes 30min. Very random

If manually set a static ip on the clients. it can access the web.

I don’t know much about routers but can a DHCP server within a router be faulty even trying with different firmware and countless times of software reset

not possible, dhcp is part of the firmware code.

most likely you set the lease time of DHCP too short. Try 10080 minutes or biger.

But in the past it did not occur at all and I did all kinds of factory reset including flashing of 3rd party firmware. Can it be firmware corruption?

Unplugged all wired connections.

Wifi devices did not lose it IP for 2 days.

I am slowing plug in wired devices mainly my iMac/Xiaomi tv/remote server 1 by 1 to check which device is causing trouble for the router

After removing my USB ethernet device from my laptop.
DHCP in router no longer shows any issues.

Quick question. Can a faulty network interface cause trouble to DHCP distrubuting in a home network?

Possible if the usb Ethernet device was also distributing dhcp. Conflicting with your router

I don’t think I have setup my computer as a DHCP server
It is a normal USB to ethernet adapter with HDMI input for my laptop as my laptop only has USB C port

if your network device uses static IP, and the ip no is within router's dhcp range, you will have problem.

The ethernet adapter is not using a static IP
By the way thanks everyone. The issue has been resolved. I replaced the old ethernet cable that was connected to the adapter.

From there it worked fine without any issues for the past week alr.
Thanks
