If I am on a ONR, connection through any of the 4 ports won't cause this issue? Because only the ONR itself is requesting for an public IP through DHCP? While the rest of the device connected to the ONR are only doing DHCP between the ONR and connected devices within a LAN and not with the Singtel backend WAN for an public IP? Is my understanding correct? |

It is not really an issue for most of the ONT users anyway, as usually you will not change the router several times. |

Other than that the IP address seems to stay for a long time for me. But they do change the IP address as per other reports. |

Bridged port -- internet only, not for Singtel.TV box, no VLAN needed, your 3rd party router (Google Nest or any other non SingTel router with 1Gbps WAN port) should just work. Unbridged ports -- for SingTel TV boxes, no internet access. |

So I just need to remove the AC Router Plus and plug one of the Lan cable from the ONR to the Google Wifi Nest will do? So the ONR will work as a router and the Google Wifi Nest as AP/ Nest? Is there still a need to call SingTel to bridge the ONR? |

Take note now SingTel is selling Google Nest WiFi Mesh. https://www.singtel.com/personal/pro...dband/wifimesh You just need to connect the router to any of the ONR port. Ignore the SingTel TV box in the following official guide from SingTel as you do not have SingTel TV. https://i.imgur.com/Mk2HLIY.jpg However, I believe using Google Nest WiFi Mesh in this way will result in Double NAT since it can not form mesh in AP mode. So the Google Nest must run in Router mode and cause Double NAT. Ref: Google FAQ on Bridge Mode https://support.google.com/googlenes...40987?hl=en-SG Ref: Google FAQ on Double NAT https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6277579 Netgear KB on Double NAT https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT So there will be limitations for some use cases. However it will not cause problems for internet browsing. Please consult SingTel as well if you think the Double NAT could cause problems. |

If not, will have to call SingTel to bridge the ONR to disable the ONR router function and use it as ONT. By doing so, the Voice port on the ONR will not be affected right? |
Quote:
Do not bridge the Google WiFi, you will lose the mesh function as it does not support mesh in AP/bridge mode. It has to be in router mode. If it is just for internet browsing, no need to bridge the ONR. Only when you hit the limit of Double NAT, then you need to contact SingTel to bridge the ONR. Voice port is not affected by bridging. Examples of potential problem of Double NAT. 1) Your Xbox may need to be connected to the ONR and not to the Google WiFi. 2) Your wired device connected to the ONR may not be able to see the devices connected to the Google WiFi. FAQ from Google https://support.google.com/googlenes...40987?hl=en-SG *** Do Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi support Bridge mode? Yes, but Bridge mode will only work if you’re using a single Wi-Fi device. If you want to create a mesh network with multiple devices, your router or primary Wifi point cannot be in Bridge mode. *** |
Google FAQ on Double NAT
https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/6277579 *** What is double NAT? You can connect two routers to extend the Wi-Fi coverage in your home. But when you have two routers, each with their own private Wi-Fi network, your personal devices can have a hard time communicating with each other. This scenario is called double NAT. For example, let’s say you want to wirelessly print a picture from your computer. If you have two Wi-Fi networks, it’s possible that your computer is on one network while your printer is on the other. And if both networks are private, your computer won’t be able to tell your printer to print the picture. Double NAT https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Vm...SdyY=w1400-rwa This can also result in performance issues if you play online games or use port forwarding rules and UPnP. *** |
