OK, finally got VQ service up and running. It came with zNID 2400 fiber gateway. The box is not bad, does 99% of things ordinary consumer would need, but I also got Asus RT-AC66U and would like to have this box to take the most of the load.

So in essence what I need is to convert the fiber gateway from router/wireless access point into a bridge device. In other words I want to implement the following deployment:

WAN/Fiber interface <=bridge=>GE port1 --->Wan Interface of Asus

I want to disable routing (so called brouted mode) and bridge the WAN (fiber) interface of the modem to one of the GE interfaces which will be plugged into WAN port of ASUS.

As a result, ASUS's WAN interface should have the public IP address and I can define all other tools - DHCP, sharing/etc.

However despite the fact that I've created the bridged interface according to the manual - created VLAN 900 in bridged mode, assigned that VLAN to GE4, removed that interface from the default VLAN 907 - it does not work.

So. Does anybody had success with the same type of deployment and what needs to be done and which way to make it work?
Don't configure the Zhone VLANs yourself - after a reboot, the routed mode configuration is pushed back to your modem, :S

Have you checked if your LAN port is gigabit and that your cable is Cat 5e and above?

Below is a quick defnition of Fast Ethernet for your reference.

In computer networking, Fast Ethernet is a collective term for a number of Ethernet standards that carry traffic at the nominal rate of 100 Mbit/s (the original Ethernet speed was 10 Mbit/s). Of the Fast Ethernet standards, 100BASE-TX is by far the most common.

Basically it means that if your adapter is a FE(Fast Ethernet) adapter, you can except speeds of up to 100mbps only :3:s12::s12:

You should see some improvement if you set your notebook (I am assuming it is a notebook?) to high performance mode (in Control Panel > Power Options), and install the latest drivers for your network card.

Usual suspects include hdd speeds, CPU speed, NIC chipset, SATA chipset, memory size and speed.

If you use an atom netbook connected to a 1Gbps line you would get nowhere near even 800Mbps transfer speeds.

But of course the average ST user *coughh.ngcough* usually won't understand that and want 999Mbps or more speed on their plan.

hi guys, thanks for the replies,
yeah, my lappy is a 1 gigabit port, according to windows.

i guess maybe it is my laptop, no more ASUS laptops haha
gotta get a new LENOVO ! LOL

for now, i am keeping it status quo as there are too many variables,
my internet is transmitting fine, everyone can stream happily.

i think i will arrow a android TV box, the VQ one can lag and the display quality is not optimised

thanks everybardi

ASUS RT-AC3200

ASUS RT-AC3200 isn't vapour-ware :D

Although there are AC3200 routers already in the market, but ASUS is the first to implement 2.4GHz/5GHz dynamic smart connect which allows WiFi devices to auto connect to either band without manual disconnection and reconnection :D

Don't say i blow smoke, see what RMerlin the guru has to say lor :p simply letting competitors smelling smoke

All I can say is that the router isn't vaporware, as I can see Asus making a lot of progress toward supporting it in their firmware source code with each new GPL release (their Smart Connect feature seems to be lightyears ahead of the cut-down support Netgear implemented in their own R8000 based on what I can see in the source code).

Remember that the RT-N66U came to market nearly a whole year late, and went through a complete redesign. The AC87 was also delayed by a few months as it went through a casing redesign (and they even changed the LEDs at the last minute - the one I have at home has white leds, while the released product has blue leds).

If they ship too quickly, people complain about being paying betatesters. If they delay to finetune things out, people complain about the delays. I guess they just can't win.

If you purchase it separately from installation time, you just need to call 67238100/email noc@viewqwest.com with the MAC address (or photo of the label) on the Asus box.

From there they will guide you how to power up and connect the router.

As for the VPN issue, ensure that you did not manually configure a DNS server on your PC. You should leave it to automatically get from your router, or hard set as:
202.73.51.99
202.73.51.98
(only works if you have Freedom VPN subscription)

ASUS RT-AC3200

Still no teaming... useless

Have you contacted WoW/Battle.net support about this? Do drop them a ticket with the above traceroute, they should be able to reach out to their provider to fix the return routing.

Login is required to open a ticket and I do not have a Battle.net account :X else I would open one right now

Just give them the above traceroute to let them know the return routing has suddenly switched to coming back via Australia - USA West - Singapore instead of the usual Australia - Singapore.

They can reach us via most networks listed here AS18106 Viewqwest Pte Ltd - bgp.he.net or peering exchanges listed here as18106.peeringdb.com

Hi,

I had a call from VQ confirming that my Port 2 has been activated and they wanted to come down earlier from my scheduled appt for installation. However I can't make it earlier so we had to stick to the scheduled appt.

I currently have an active account with MR on Port 1. The only equipment I have is the NucleusConnect ONT and the Asus RT-N66U router.

Can I check what will VQ be bringing in to replace / install for my appointment? Will they be giving me another ONT, or use back the existing ONT? As part of the VQ package, I bought a new Asus router too.

Can I use my existing router to test Port 2 myself first before the scheduled appt? Or do I need to use the new Asus router from VQ to connect to Port 2? Do they lock or register the MAC addresses of the routers for VQ?

Hope to run some speedtest diagnostics first.
