The usual lead-time is around 2 weeks. Port 2 scenario is preferable since there's no downtime, however if we encounter an issue with the port (insufficient capacity for example...) we need to wait for NLT to resolve which can take a long time. In that case you can opt for whats called "Enhanced Fiber Takeover" - we'll take over from MR on port 1 and the switch is done within a day so usually only a few hours downtime.

Thx for the reply. In the past, I read about MR taking ages to handover FTP port to next ISP, so with EFT program, this issue is well into the history books?

Also, so far on your side, how much users got reported limitation issues on port 2? If have, normally how long NLT take to resolve?

Hmm enhanced FTO is meant to address these issues yes. Most cases we've dealt with have gone smoothly :)

Port 2 is hard to say - i don't know the exact breakdown. As for delays...it can vary a lot from just a few days to over 2 months :( There's no telling where you'll fall until we receive the delay notice from NLT

My case, with Singtel on port 1 and VQ to be activated on port 2 was one week, but it may be an exception though. I would recommend that you call up NLT yourself and speak to the CSO to help push things along once you have applied to VQ, coz that was what I did.

Hi guys, currently with MR contract ends mid-May. If I'm switching over to VQ, when do I need to sign up in order to avoid down time? Any reason at all to sign up early during the coming IT Show?

Also, I'm expecting to move out to my new BTO Q4 this year earliest or early 2016. How easy (or difficult) will it be to have my account transferred to my new place at that time?

Yo, a few points to note:

For "switching over" you have 2 options, (1) 2nd port (preferred) or (2) Fiber Take-Over (FTO) (not preferred).

For (1) VQ will apply a new service on 2nd port of the termination point, thus you can have concurrent service, just terminate the MR line after your VQ line is installed and stable.

Not sure about MR policy but usually the termination will be pro-rata on the number of days used between billing cycles.

For (2) VQ will only recommend this if NetLink Trust tells VQ insufficient capacity, then we will recommend FTO to prevent delays of 2weeks-months required for NLT to install additional capacity.

The downside is there will be a downtime of up to 3 days as NLT takes a while to reflect in the system that the FTO was done, and VQ will only install upon notification from NLT that FTO is completed (takes around 1-2 business days).

As for your enquiry about re-locating your service to new flat, it usually only takes a few hours maximum (cut off old fiber, drive the truck to new MDF, splice the new fiber). However the DATE on which this is carried out depends on their manpower and is unpredictable.

I.e. if they relocate ur service ahead of you moving in, your old house internet may be cut off a few days before you actually move. And vice versa, they may only do the relocation a few days after you move.

So prepare your mobile data for that +/- a few days. :)

Andrew. How is the Tidal streaming? I waiting for your approval before I re-subscribe. I'm listening to it now and still frequent dropouts. :(

I'm canceling my subscription until they bring in a local CDN. The lag and dropouts are affecting all local ISPs equally badly.
