wifi downstairs

my modem and router are in my room upstairs. the wifi signal is too weak for the people downstairs to use.

i recently got some people to extend cable from my room to an area downstairs. can i just plug a router here for people downstairs to get wifi signal? do i need a modem too? am i even doing the right thing?

i have a linksys ea8100 which i plugged but didnt work.

anyone knows a simple fix?

Does the cable connect from the router to the modem?
If it does, you need to configure your wifi router as an access point.
