Wireless@SGx tethering?

Wireless@SGx is authenticated through my SIM card, and on a laptop with no admin privileges, I am unable to install/setup wireless@sg on the laptop itself.

Is there any way for me to use my phone to provide internet access to my laptop through Wireless@SGx in this case?

Thanks!

Connect to wireless@sg instead lor, and enter a mobile number with one-time pin via sms.

You cannot connect to sgx and repeats the signal like this..

You can enable USB tethering on your phone.

Connecting to Wireless@SG

Method 2: non-SIM Login (iOS, Android, macOS and Windows PC)

Download the Wireless@SG app from the iOS App store, Google Playstore, Mac App store and the Windows app from IMDA webpage and follow the step-by-step instructions to setup your device

Download the app by clicking the icons below

Post #2 & #3 will probably work for you.

Ignore post #4 as you do not have admin privileges and will not be able to install the app.

For Windows Store app you usually do not need admin right. No so sure about this one though.

The mobile apps are so bad they have a 2.1 Rating in the Apple App Store and 2.8 Rating in the Google Play Store.

For your info.

This is not an App as it is a file "WirelessSG-win.exe" which run like any other application for Windows OS (laptop).

It required a Telco and valid mobile number for SMS "PIN" to activate.

Upon activation it required to enable Wifi connection for detection to complete the setup.

So it is an source to provide the access to connect to WirelessSG hotspot.

Effectively it valid for 6 months and may required to do the setup again.

This may effectively replaced any previous version, Wireless@SGx

Straight and simple setup to gain access to Wireless@SG coverage.

You are right at what you say but you miss the point. TS does not have admin right and can not install the exe file. I just tried it myself under a Windows 10 laptop and indeed it needs admin right to install.

Sorry.. but none of the solutions above work as the laptop is 100% secured - i.e.

no USB devices
no internet login through a PORTAL
no installation of apps

With that in mind, any other potential workaround?

Have you looked up the Computer Act of your institution? Does it mention any misuse policy and that you’re liable for it?

To me it sounds like all these precautions were deliberately enforced and here you are trying to circumvent them.

Just wondering if you have overlooked the responsibility of using this laptop and that you might not be aware of the consequences should an exploitation is discovered.

If it is a locked down system then Bluetooth will also not work. TS should really read what renfred89 wrote which raised a very valid point. Be very careful of the obligations as the user of a lock down system. The organization must have the reason to lock down the system and the user has to follow the rules.

We have locked down systems in the company where you are only allowed to go to whitelisted web sites. But then the user will have another machine for general work including web browsing.
