Hi, my thoughts after the first 72 hours of use.

1. Battery life is awesome, have used it from morning till now and done lots of things including multiple syncing, playback of movies and music and testing all apps, just sent the ipad to be charged. That's got to be about 11 hours of use!

2. Screen is very bright. With the matte screen protector, so long as the brightness is increased (not yet max), not much light is lost. Am contemplating keeping the matte screen protector on permanently.

3. The speed in launching apps is very fast. No lag anywhere yet. And that includes the ultimate test, the RSS reader which syncs to my Google reader RSS list and always bogs down both the iPhone 3G and 3GS but is very smooth on the iPad. Graphics on Need for speed shift is amazing and even with all cars bunched up and rounding corners, there is no lag and the background remains fluid.

4. New apps need time to mature. Right now apps like the twitter clients seem very expansive with lots of screen space empty. Looking forward to version 2.0 apps that will figure out new uses.

5. Magazine apps have set a new benchmark in multimedia integration. I downloaded both the Time Magazine and Popular Science and am impressed with the new concepts for centrefolds and integrated video and audio in both the articles and the advertisements.

6. The on-screen keyboard is actually very usable. This was a surprise for me. I had ordered the keyboard dock and am waiting for it, but having used the on screen keyboard the last few days, I must say that apart from being ergonomically better, the keyboard dock may not have enough going for it for me to switch in most situations.

7. No coverflow for the iPod app. This was a bit of a shock.. Why not? It would have been gorgeous. The whole iPod app needs to be tweaked and feels a little awkward as if it is confused as to whether it is an iTunes app or an iPod app. Needs to be polished further. Still, all other functions (lyrics, cover art etc.) works well.

That's all for now. Will send in more observations as and when time allows.

Thanks Deavenger for starting this thread.

Anyone know if File Sharing works under Windows? According to the Support Docs (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4094) one of the requirements is Mac OS X. Want to be sure before putting money on these apps.

Rajesh/ camelot88 - are you able to read pdf files on your ipad please? if you can do that, how do you actually get your pdf files into the ipad in the first place?

i have a couple of e-books and magazines in pdf format and i would very much like to be able to read them on the ipad when i eventually get it

Hi,

I use the app called GoodReader which allows large pdf docs and password protected ones to be opened without the problems that I have had with other iPad pdf readers. It also enables file transfer from your computer via USB through iTunes and via wifi and web downloads. Well worth the price of entry if you intend to use pdf's a lot as I do.

The other option is to convert your pdf into the ibook format (ePub) which is an open format and upload them using itunes. I have not tried this yet so shall not comment. You may want to research that approach on google as there are many sites with step by step instructions and let us know how it goes.

cheers!

This would be the Files Sharing option under iTunes, right? Can I check with you if you are using a Mac or PC? Just want to confirm if Files Sharing can be used on Windows machines.

I've tried using Calibre to convert stuff into ePubs which can be loaded into the iBook app with no problems. Haven't tried with PDFs so not too sure how they'll look.

Hi, I am using a mac for syncing my iPad. No issues on pdf file uploads using iTunes 9.1.

I too have heard of issues on the net on problems faced by users with file sharing on windows, but I have not tried it myself.
